Hello

Has any one had this? I have this and have been told I am higher risk of blood clot - so the docs want to prescribe me clexane- which is to be injected and thins the blood.

I'm not sure whether to take it....

Any experience of it would be good.

I take Lovenox which I think is the same thing. It doesn't hurt and I haven't had any side effects. This is my second pregnancy to take it in. I recommend you inject in it your thighs as it hurts less there than any other place I've tried.

I have to inject 80mg of clexane twice a day as I got bi-lateral pulomonary embolisms (blood clots in lungs) in my last pregnancy 3 months ago. I have to keep injecting twice a day until the end of Sept. but we are trying to concieve and if I do get pregnant again I then have to stay on one injection a day until 6 weeks after the birth. I will also have to have it in subsequent pregnancies.

Do take the injections if they have been advised. They are perfectly safe in pregnany and blood clots are seriously life threatening, especially if they end up in your lungs, like mine did. The clots really, really complicated my pregnancy.

There are certain considerations if you are on clexane. I was told I probably wouldn't be able to have an epidural as pain relief and obviously there is greater risk of bleeding at delivery. All these are far less erious than blood clots though.

I inject in both my thighs and both sides of my stomach. Sometimes the injections ting a bit, but they aren't that painful. I do get a small bruise/lump at the injection site, but it's really not that bad.

Hello

After my little girl was stillborn in December, I am now taking low dose asprin and also injecting clexane (40mg). Although the cause of the stillbirth was not 100% known, indications show that as I carry the gene which means my blood is likely to clot more, together with her been underweight and small clots found in the placenta I was given lots of advice and guidance about taking medication to help lower the risk of this happening again. The conclusion from what happened is that as my blood possibly clotted more than normal, not enough oxygen and nutrients were getting through to her which meant she was not able to make enough energy and just couldnt hold on.

My consultant advised I def took asprin but it was my decision to take heparin (clexane). After originally deciding against it, I changed my mind last minute. I have been injecting since week 12 and I am now 23 weeks pregnant. I also do it into my thigh! Yes bruising will occur.....and I am typically a person who never bruises! Occasionally it will sting! But after losing a little girl I will do everything I can to ensure that things will go well this time. I also tend to do mine straight after a shower when the skin is warm and the pores should be open!.....dont know if this is totally true but its my little routine!

Many women take clexane during pregnancy and the problems are apparently relatively low. I have been advised that I will probably stop the injections before the end of gestation to help minimise risks of excessive bleeding.

Thank you so much. I am so confused as another consultant has said that I am not at higher risk of blood clot! I am going to seek further med advice. I feel quite worried.

My main worry is the bleeding - I do bleed a lot anyway so worry that I will not be able to stop

I am 35 weeks so hoping the baby arrives in 2 weeks and I can avoid it.

Thanks its reaaly great to hear from you
