I was induced last pregnancy at 38+4 I had propess 1pm 3rd september and they left it to work for 24hrs, I had my waters broken at 2:30pm 4th September and was 2-3cm, my daughter was born at 5:36pm, so I had a 3 hour labour. Before they broke my waters I was just experiencing mild to pretty painful back aches, but managed to walk around and go to the canteen for a sandwhich and a drink across the road so not like I was "in labour" or anything!

Does being induced make your labour faster or does it have no impact on how quickly you deliver the baby? I'm just starting to worry that my first labour was so fast my second might be even quicker, and I'd like to make it to the hospital :haha:

Edit: I always say that I was in labour for 3 hours, but you're only classed as in active labour from a certain point, so it would have been between those 3 hours? So I could have had a 2 and a half hour/2 hour labour? It's confusing so please do help me out

I was induced 2 weeks ago. From start (first suppository) to finish was 5 hours. Active labour was probably 3 hours. I def think being induced makes it much faster and MUCH more intense.

It supposed to make your labour longer but I think that is more if you have the drip, as you cant get up and move about etc.

My first I had the drip and it was 27 hours of established labour, my second wasn't an induction and ninety minutes from the first contraction to holding her, my third was an induction with pessary but no drip and was 45 minutes from first contraction to holding her, my fourth was induction but no drip and in one hour we went from 0cm to 7cm when I needed an emergency section, and my fifth was 15 minutes established labour.

So it varies, IMO.

1st induction I had established labour (4cm to birth) of around 3 hours.
2nd induction I had established labour of 2 and a half hours.

Very very very different inductions though....1st was Prostin...the first didnt work and then the second set me off with strong contractions straight away...four hours of strong contractions before I reached 4cm. Then from 4cm to birth was about 3 hours.

2nd induction was propess...inserted 7pm on wednesday...by 6am thursday I was contracting every few minutes up until 4pm when I was checked (contractions registering 60-70 on the trace and coming every 2 mins) but had made hardly any progress. Checked again at 7pm and was just about 3cm and propess was removed, contractions stopped completely. Went to labour ward at 4am friday for waters broke. Waters broke but no contractions. Placed on drip at around 7 or 8am. Drip started at 1ml..then 2ml..then 4ml...went up in stages every half hour till it reached the limit of 21(??) and still jothing. Consultant was called and they were amazed I wasnt contracting at this level on the drip. Drip was cranked up to 32 (or maybe 34?) and consultant said to go o higher if this didnt work but it did (thank god) this was about 2pm. I was checked and was 4cm so finally in established labour. He was born at 4.39pm.

There really is no way of telling what will happen!

I was 12 days late. Started on Pitocen at 7:30am. Broke waters at 9:30am. She was out and about at 10:45 am. I was showered and eating lunch by noon. Hopefully i dont have to wait that long this time but the labor was a breeze!

From start of pitocin to when I gave birth, around 3 hours, 20 minutes. I consider myself to have been in active labor for maybe 2 hours.

It was 18 hours from insertion of the gel to baby. I was having light contractions as soon as the gel was in. Was 5cm when I got back to the hospital at 11:30pm and had my LO at 4:30am.

I'm due to be induced at 38 weeks on Friday (due to having insulin controlled GD) so just a few days time, and am intrigued to know how long it will take me personally, but I guess I won't know until the time comes!!

It seems as though it varies between women. As I'll only be 38 weeks and currently do not feel anyway close to being in labour, I wonder whether it might take my body a while to get going.

My DH reckons he's going to get bored if it goes on too long.... oh diddums for him, he's got the easy deal through all this!! :growlmad:

1st induction (first child) was 7 hours start to finish
2nd induction (2nd child) was 14 hours start to finish.

It really depends on the woman and how her body responds to the drugs. For me it was 26 hours from the time they inserted the cervadil to birth. I was in established/active labor for 17 hours and spent 2 hours pushing.

For my sister in law however it was 12 hours from the time of cervadil to birth. She was in established/active labor for about 3 hours and 30 minutes of pushing.

Both of us were first time moms, around the same age, and our babies were mere ounces apart in weight. We had pitocin drips going after the cervadil too. So it can vary quite a bit.

My waters went and I didn't go into labour myself so 24 hours later I was still only 2-3cm dilated so they out me on the drip at 7pm and my lb was born at 3am so 8 hours.

On paper my labour was 40 minutes. I had maybe 2.5 hours of knowing I was in labour. 40 mins of any actual pain.

24 hours from first contraction, or 14 hours from my waters being broken/put on drip.

Thanks for all of the replies, I guess it really just depends!

I don't know if I mentioned in the first post, I never got to have the drip as I went straight in to labour when they broke my waters.

Now I have another (possibly) 20 weeks to see what happens, and think about all of this! :haha:

active labor for 8hrs after they broke my water. and it was a miserable 8 hours at that!

I was induced a week ago. I had the Pitocin so I wasn't allowed out of bed. They started the IV and broke my water at 1pm and he was born at 8:44pm. So about 7 hrs of labor. Not too bed. It was very intense but really quick.

Depends how ready your body is in the first place. I was two weeks over and only 1cm. Pessary on saturday morning. Waters broke sunday night after spending two days walking the hospital and bouncing on a ball. Drip started the next day at 12pm and she was born by emcs at 11.45pm. So fromthe start of the process three days. Plenty of stories of super fast labours though. My body just didnt know what to do with the contractions. I was contracting but not dialating

I was induced with my first, I had the pessaries but no drip. My labour was about 6 hours.
My 2nd was none induced and labour was about 7 hours but the timing is a bit of a guess as I was 8cm when I got to hospital so I don't know when active labour started. But from 1st proper contraction (vs period crampy contractions) it was about 10 hours.
For me my induced labour was faster but I don't know whether the induction was the reason for that.

I was induced with pessary at 1.50 on Fri afternoon. Had waters broken 9.30 Saturday morning n put on drip around midday the same Saturday due to not dilating past 3cm. Dd was born 23.49 that Saturday night. So approximately 34 hours from start to finish. But less than 12 in 'active' labour xx

I was induced with my first, from start to finish it was 4/5 hours (I was not dilated at all and I think 80% thinned). With my 2nd, I went into labor naturally, it took the same amount of time- although I got stuck at 7 1/2 for 2 hours so they started pitocin. :)
