Hi guys, can anyone help please?

I took my 4 wk old to the gp today as I believed he was suffering from reflux.

She prescribed infant gaviscon, 1 sachet upto 6 times a day. My son feeds up to 8 times a day so how old you suggest I use the gaviscon?

Would you use, then miss on a feed or half the quantity per feed?

Thank you x

Is there a time of day when he is more unsettled? Personally I would use it before and during those times. :)

Gaviscon didn't work for my little one, she's now on ranitidine and Cow and gate comfort formula (which doesnt need gaviscon as its thicker than normal formula.)

Just letting you know what other options are available incase that doesn't work :)

Good luck x

My GP told me to ignore the six times rule on the box. Told me if he has seven bottles then give it seven times. Also told me to ignore the dosage on the box. We use one sachet for each feed as opposed to two sachets as the box states.

Joy x

as PP said my doc also said every feed should contain a dose, but with dom i used to go 'one off one on' as he was on around 8 bottles when we first started gaviscon so 4 of those were with doses of gaviscon one of a morning first thing, then a plain form, then one pre lunch (helped settled his tummy for when he was most active) then so on and so fourth and his last bottle of the night would be a gaviscon to keep him settled as his reflux was worse when he was lying flat, HTHs xx :hugs: :flower: reflux is a tough thing, feeling your worry x

My LO was also prescribed infant gaviscon for silent reflux earlier this week. So far we have been putting it in every bottle but one (she has 6-7 a day) so we are making sure we stick to the 6 in 24 hour rule.

Its helping her so far, we are still getting a few fussy spells but nothing like what we had before where she would cry for hours on end.

Other things we have done to help with reflux is :
Raise her matress slightly
Feed her at an upright angle so the milk goes down easier, also keep her like this for a while after her feed.
Let her settle herself after her feed either on us or in her crib, she doesnt seem to like us fussing over her after a feed, she will fall asleep herself....if she cries then we try different postions.

I feel for you, reflux babies are hard work when all we want to do is comfort them through any pain xxxxx

Hi Ladies
Since my last post I feel the gaviscon just isnt working as well (LO has been on it 6 days now) and she is starting to get very upset/unsettled after her feeds.
I am back to the Drs next week anyway so am thinking of asking for something else, shes no where near as bad as she was before the gaviscon but shes obviously still not happy at times (say 3/6 bottles a day?)
I dont want to keep trying different medicines on my LO but also want her to be happy and comfy which she just isnt at times (sometimes she is a happy baby cooing away)

x
