I was just cleaning cat litter as hubby away with work so someones got to do it!

as I was getting the clumped urine out, a load of dust came up my nose and it feels like its stuck there.

can you get toxo..(sp) from cat litter in this case??

I'm worrying now!!!!

nope, you can only get it from contact with it on your hands and then that getting into your mouth, as deadly as the smell is ( I can't stand the smell of cat mess :sick) it won't do you any harm :flower: give your nose a blow and clean with a tissue if your still worried

Also less than 1 in 430 cats have toxo in their poo at any one time :hugs::hugs::hugs: You would have to get an infectious dose of it, which would be unlikely by the inhalation route xxxx

and because you have had a cat before being preggo, u may have come into contact with the toxo befopre anyway, so would be ok. its only people who have never come into contact with toxo who are at risk. or so my midwife says xxxx

Annnd it takes 24 hours of the poop being out of the cat for the toxo stuff to become 'active' and seeing as most people change their litter daily it's even less likely you'll catch it from a litter tray :flower: xxx

i change the litter box for our two cats i just use latex gloves and wash really well when im done.. i had hubs doing it but he doesn't do it for days and i get irritated so i just started doing it myself im tired of bugging him all day everyday to do it..

Oh yeh I know how this feels, we have one of them walk in trays so hubby thinks if he fills litter up really high he can get away with cleaning it less, in end I just said "listen I'll do it cos when they crap on the floor cos they don't wanna go in a messy box its more dangerous than me just cleaning it!!!"
Men hey! I clean the box twice a day so this info about it not being active for 24 hrs is useful to know.
thanks ladies x

I stay away from my cat litter, being pregnant is a blimin good excuse to not have to do it. :)

Are your cats indoor or outdoor cats, cos if they are indoor I read you can't get it anyway.

I'm sure there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

one is outdoor, one prefers indoor! they are like chalk and cheese!

haha mine are both indoor.. i clean it 1 time a day sometimes every other cuz i forget haha

i tried telling hubs to do it cuz i cant.. didnt work so well for me the darn thing never got cleaned.. haha drove me nuts.. so i just did it myself haha

I have two cats too and got OH to clean out the litter tray from day one - just because I hated doing it :haha: but I've helped him a few times and 'inhaled' some of the dust by accident and was worried it would do some damage but I read that if you're a cat owner you've probably already had toxo anyway xx
