Went today she said to scrap all the fertility monitoring (CBFM and temps) and to BD 3-4 times per week throughout cycle. She says if you just BD during the 'fertile phase' you can miss days and that the egg can survive 24-48 hrs and that we don't all fully understand what happens and it varies individual to individual.

(Not sure abt this as I do it for several days before and after ov.) But I think i'll give it a go. She also said that alot of people who go for referral to fertility experts are told to get rid of all the monitoring and the patients often find they get pregnant soon after.

She was v positive abt my age too (35) said that she'll do all the blood tests for me whilst we try the new plan...so will have blood test CD18-19 (short cycle so this is the CD21 test). I asked abt FSH test for my age and she said she'd do it on the CD18 and not the CD3 as they only do this for women who are in their mid-40s or are suspected of approaching menopause. She said given that my cycles are regular she doesn't think I have that issue.

What do you think abt this advice?

After reading all you see on this site sometimes I was rather taken aback by the positivity and the fact that she was not patronising at all and was prepared to do all the tests to make us feel better. That and she said my LP phase was fine (10-11 days). She said she studied fertility and cycles at great length during her training as a doc.

Would love to know your thoughts though! :)

You are sooo lucky to have seen a positive doctor. The ones I have seen were looking so depressed and overworked. The first thing they mentioned was my age :) (37 but 36 at the time) Which made me depressed in return Lol. I think giving it a try definitely wouldn't hurt :)))) After all there are more mothers in the world who hasn't seen a OPK in their entire lives than not. As long as you can keep up the good work that is :))) Good luck.

Spacegirl, you are only 35!!! You are young!!! I agree though that everyone is different. I stopped using ov sticks because i was getting 'hung up' over them. Mind you i did get pregnant when i was using them but sadly m/c. Good luck anyway. x

hi honey i had a scan on 23/06 by a wonderful lady who explained loads to me! her advice was to burn the opks and bd every other day through my cycle and must say since i have seen her im so much relaxed about it. my scan showed that my womb and everything is in perfect working order and she said that im still young(im 41!!) she did so much for my confidence in conceiving again after losing my little one in feb x

I think this is great advice from what sounds like a lovely empathic doctor (makes a change in my experience!). My doc also told me to get rid of the monitoring and take the pressure off - have done that to some extent but still kept an eye on it this cycle due to extra long one last month. So encouraging though. Thanks for sharing this!

what a wonderful enlightened doc- hold on to her they r hard to find!!! its true what they say-relax and it will happen - but it is soooooo difficult xx

Sounds a lot less stressful to me!
Thinking about doing the same now that I know I O & when.

Good luck hun! xx

Thanks for your replies!
Yes she did make me feel a whole lot better about it all. She reminded me that conception is a difficult complex process even for the super healthy perfect.

It was her attitude to my age that stunned me becuse I was expecting a lecture saying I better get a move on but she was v much 'you're still young!'.

I will scrap the sticks etc...but it will be hard not to wonder what is going on and what day i'm on!

Good luck girls! Keep positive!

oh and mintypeas, mumoffive so sorry to hear of your m/cs. You both seem like strong/together girls so I hope you are recovering xxxxx

After a miscarriage in June 08 I went a bit mental temping and p'ing on sticks behind my OH's back for a couple of months. Then we went on hols in September, BD'd every morning, stuck legs in the air for good measure and conceived. I was 37.
I'm not saying charting doesn't work but if you BD every other day during your fertile phase it has to be just as effective. And I actually felt it was more of a result - the mental temping etc didn't feel sexy at all. Funnily enough!!

What a great Doc you've found, I love her attitude. Just goes to show they are around, they just take a little finding sometimes :)
Good luck with the relaxed approach!

hey spacegirl - you're the same age as me - although i will be 36 in sept.

I agree with the other posts on here - your doc seems lovely and if she has specialised in fertility during her training that can only be a plus. Due to my pregnancy history, i have a consultant who looks after me from the first signs of pregnancy and i gotta say she is fantastic too. Really positive and encouraging but realistic too. She always follows up our appointment with a letter too - written on a first name basis - which makes it easier to deal with things. TTS and m/c are hard enough as it is - i dont know how i would feel if my feelings were neglected or i was treated as just a statistic.

So thanks for the positive doc story :)

Great Dr. I think I will try that, The every other day throughout your cycle is a lot for me especially with our schedules but I will give it a try.

Girls,

Forgive me for announcing it here but OMG I'm a day late and did a test...it's positive!

And that's at 35, short cycles, LP on short side and endometriosis (asymptomatic).

I'm numb! I hope it sticks!!!!

Anyway, thank you so much for your comments. I'm glad the post has had a positive influence! It's vvv early days I know but I hope this result helps you all too. I used to like hearing abt the 35+ getting pregnant made it feel like it was possible (so forgive me).

Good luck to you all!

Huge congrats spacegirl!!!!
Sending bucketfulls of sticky babydust your way!!!

Hurrah for positive Docs! Mine told me to forget about charting too - made me feel much better as I didn't feel like BDing at night as I was waking up at 6am to take my temp!

I asked my doctor about if I should chart, he says just forget it.......It stresses people out:thumbup: He says just have fun with it :)sex:)

Easier said than done, right!

Heeey what great neeews :))) Good luck with the pregnancy. Your doc definitely had a positive effect on you it seems :)))

I think that charting in the beginning is a good idea (for 6 mo. say) this gives you an idea of cycle length, approx. ovulation day and of course if you are ovulating on your own.

I think after you have a good idea of your system you should stop and go without temping etc... That was my plan anyway!

Good luck girls!
