Hello!

I would love some opinions on my DH's SA results for ladies who have experience with SA.

He has had two tests spaced 2 weeks apart. We were told that his count and motility are fine, but that morph is low at 1-2% strict. He has a varicocele.

I am wondering if his count and motility are a low normal or a high normal, if that makes any sense!

He are out results:

Test 1:

Volume- 2.3 mL
Concentration- 46.8 million
Total count- 107.6 million
Progressive motility- 46%
Morphology- 1% strict, with 99% abnormal heads
Sperm antonodies- negative

Test 2:

Volume- 2.5 mL
Concentration-114.2 million
Total count- 285.5 million
Progressive motility- 54%
Morphology- 2% strict, with 94% abnormal heads

DH admitted to me after the fact that he "missed the cup" a little bit when he did the first test, so the first bit did not make it into the sample. Not sure if that explains the differences between the two tests.

So any thoughts on our numbers? Do we have hope naturally? With IUI? IVF? We are thinking of trying the varicocele surgery as well.

Thanks ladies. :flower:

Hi :flower:

I'm not 100%, and am just going by my OH's SA, which we recently looked back at to sort some stuff out.

Your progressive motility is high, which is good - it's the amount of them swimming in a straight line. Counts all seem to be fantastic, too! The only thing that sticks out to me is the morphology, which should be around 4%. This might cause some issues, but my FS told us that by taking supplements etc, you can actually improve morphology, so maybe that's worth looking into? We were recommended wellman conception...good, as long as OH remembers to take them!

Also, it's worth remembering that even though morphology is 1%, you have a strong count - so 2% of them look normal, out of 285 million - that still gives you something like 2.85 million which are of good morphology!

Hopefully more people will be able to give you some more advice - as I said, I'm simply applying what our FS told us regarding SA, and therefore the way they've written and interpreted yours might be different x

the count is excellent, WHO guidelines say that 20million is 'normal' (I think it's actually recently changed to 16 million or thereabouts!) so your OH's is way above that :happydance:

I totally agree with everything that nlk has said actually, and I would probably just say the same :haha:

there are a couple of threads in this section about low morphology and how they don't think it actually matters that much, I think if you do a search for low morphology in the long term trying to conceive section it'll bring up some really interesting threads for you to look through :) I also read somewhere that it can be quite subjective and there aren't clear rules on/they don't know what constitutes a good sperm.

anyway I'll stop waffling :haha:

I am worried about hubbys too as it came in at 2%
The FS ain't happy about it and wants further testing... my gp gave us hubbys results though and said to take menevit(australia) and she said you can still get pregnant on those figures(this from a doctor who failed to test my amh)..yeah if the wife has young eggs.I'm 38 and have low ovarian reserve:( so the fs said IVF is our only hope:( just outright thats our ONLY Hope:(

i just don't know what to think does morph really matter that much.is it that the sperm have broken heads and tails is that correct?

Get your dh's onto alpha limphoic acid. My dh's sperm reults soared. His morph went from 5 and 7% to 9%!
