Intolerant to cows milk and soy milk? (long one!)

My daughter was on aptimal and had terrible wind, colic etc...turned out she was the lactose she is now on SMA LF (doctors prescibed) and is a whole new baby.

The soy milk is lactose free and hasn't helped us & it obviously wasn't the cows milk protein either..
If this new hypoallergenic milk hasn't helped within the next few weeks does anyone think the doctor will do any tests to see if anything is wrong? I feel like 'colic' is a bit of a cop out as something must be upsetting his tummy so much! Or am I just overreacting?!

He could be trying to comfort himself with the chewing. Both my kids always seemed to have their hands in their mouths. Months before popping out a first tooth.

Colic is unexplained crying - crying because your stomach hurts and you feel awful - isn't colic.

Just to say though soya milk/tofu etc is fine later (as part of a mixed solid diet for older children) but it's just not a good idea to feed an infant only on soya, as they would be on an infant formula. That's because of the high naturally occurring oestrogen levels as other posters have said. And with the chewing my LO chews EVERYTHING. Yesterday he was chewing the edge of the table! I would dispute what your doc said about teething though. My LO is definitely teething - I can see the teeth poking through his gums! I hope everything works out for you and you can find a good milk for your LO X

Hey I ran across this thread and thought I would ask how things went? Hope you got things straightened out? My LO is soy and milk protein intolerant and the hypoallergenic formula has been great for him, hope it is helping you!

Hi, to be honest he was better on the soy milk! He is having very runny dark green poo and still has bad trapped wind & struggles to do a poo for a few days. He is being very sick on it too. I'm reluctant to go back on soy milk with cow & gate saying it's not for under six months and the doctor said there are no more milks to try. Is this dark green poo normal or not? Thanks

How long has he been on the milk hun. Im having some odd poos off dd, only just changed her milk on friday. It could be cause his system is still adjusting to the milk, the girls on here say it can take 2 weeks for the old milk to be out of the system. I guess while they are adjusting to a new milk, their poos will be off colour. Have you spoken to your hv, give her a ring, see what she says.

Health visitor isn't worth bothering with she's rubbish!! Been on the new milk for a week now

How it working?

When DD switched to Neocate from Alimentum it took 3 weeks it got worse before it got better. It takes weeks to get dairy\soy out of body.

It's worse than it was on the soy milk - hopefully it will get better then after a while. He's not feeding very well (2oz max in one go) because he's so uncomfortable. Keeps catching me out with bottles not being ready!
What's worse is that he's too big for his Moses basket already so we're trying to get his used to his cot. Needless to say with both things combined I'm exhausted!!
