Introducing formula to 6 wk old

Ive decided that im going to have to start introducing a bottle of formula in a few days as Lucas has started feeding more and my boobs always feel 'empty' sometimes he can't even go 2 hours without needing more, I feel like ive gone back to the first week !!

I always give him 2 bottles of ebm a day but yesterday he slotted in an extra feed where I would normally express so i had nothing left to express and he did the same again in the evening (this is on top of his normal feeds).

What I would like to know is,

Which is the best formula to to combine with bf ?

Once Ive started giving formula (1 bottle a day) how easy is it to stop and go back to exclusively bf ?

Im going to hang on a few more days as I really don't want to introduce formula yet but want to be prepared !

It sounds like he's just about at the right time to be going through his 6 week growth spurt hon and if he's anything like Aisling, it does feel like you're going right back to the start again for a few days but it does ease off. If you still wanted to exclusively breastfeed, you might find that you have supply problems if you introduce the formula now because you haven't signalled to your body that he needs more than he's getting at the moment. So if you can, maybe hold off introducing the bottle for another few days and see if things calm down and it goes back to normal...

I'm not sure which formula would be best. Aisling has had the odd bottle of formula and she has cow&gate comfort which seems fine.

I've been following a plan to increase my milk supply so I can have a stock of expressed milk, just pm me if you want details etc, it does seem to be working as I now have 250ml sitting in the fridge and she only gets one bottle of 120ml expressed milk a day!

Hey Hun

Amelia is going through the same thing at the moment.. from 7.30-11.30 this morning she was on and off me and having little naps, she is now asleep.
This has been happening for the past couple of days, it is just their growth spurt and the more you put him to the breast the more milk you will supply so he won't go hungry.

In hospital I was given Aptamil to feed to Amelia when she wasn't latching on because it complements breastfeeding

I managed to express this morning even though it took ages and he actually refused the last oz !!! im hoping the growth spurt is over !! lol

I would wait until AFTER the growth spurt as this is hard but will increase supply. I give formula now prob 2 oz a day to top up his nigh time last feed with EBM, my supply has not been affected as Iexpress off the rest or express it when he sleeps at night xx
