Hello all,
I have never been on a pregnancy site besides WebMD style sites to check symptoms. I was on Google to look up some things and this site popped up in the search. I have to say, I love how the site is like a huge conversation with women relating to each other, with reassurance, advice, and just conversation with others going through the same life changes.
I am 32 years old, a military wife, and already a mom to two boys who are 14 and 15. My youngest will be 15 before the baby is born. I am just over 17 weeks and the pregnancy was a complete surprise. I live in Michigan. I went to get out my summer shoes when the weather became nice and couldn't figure out how just my feet gained weight over the winter. A few weeks later, my husband saw me eating things I wouldn't normally eat and asked what was going on. I thought about it and checked the calendar on my phone for my last period and realized it had been months. After almost 15 years, I didn't think to check for pregnancy symptoms. I have such a busy life with teenagers (in multiple sports and activities), marriage, and work that it is expected to be tired all the time.
We had somewhat tried for years, but gave up over 5 years ago thinking it just wasn't meant to be and began to make plans for when the kids graduated. We never used meds or alternate methods for conception, we had just left it to chance. Our method was not trying but not preventing. I had heard that if you try for over a year or two and it doesn't happen naturally, that you should discuss it with the doctor to find out why. So we just assumed that it wasn't a possibility for us and thought we were free to not use contraception... assumed wrong, but extremely happy about it.
I went to college for 5 years for the medical field, but the long hours and constantly getting called in for last minute 17 hour shifts didn't work so well for family life for me so I now work as a real estate agent because of the flexibility. My schedule became much more demanding when my husband was injured overseas, so the career change became somewhat necessary for me to have better availability at home. Real estate isn't huge in my small town, but I love it.
So happy to meet you all and hear your stories. Congrats to those who are already pregnant and I wish the absolute best for those trying
