Hi ladies, sorry to barge in before I have had my baby but I could do with some advice beforehand if any of could help...

I have always had inverted nipples, my left one never comes out and my right one does pop out if cold but then goes back in again.

I am expecting my 3rd baby soon and even though I expressed my milk for my girls and they had breastmilk for the first 6 month (just by bottle) it was so tiring and this time I would really like to be able to latch my baby on...

Is this possible to get a baby to latch onto a inverted nipple? Im really getting down about it because I was giving the girls all the benefits of BM but still had all the hassle of sterilsing bottles etc and would just love to get a boob out and ot have to mess about.

I will be seeing if I can get in touch with a breastfeeding co-ordinator after, but would like some advice from people who have this problem themselves...

ALSO... I make a huge amount of milk and always made too much, in the end i was soaking through breast pads AFTER expressing 7 ounces from each breast! I had to cut up nappies and put squares of that in my bra when i went out so milk wasnt soaking my tops through... Is there something I was doing wrong?

My youngest is 5 and I am worrying like i was with my first!

I have inverted nipples & we manage to BF without any problems. If its a problem, you could perhaps try nipple shields but it can be hard work to wean LO off them. Good luck :hugs:

I have heard of using nipple sheilds while pregnant to help draw the nipple out. I have flat nipples. And I had severe nipple pain for the first week and a half. And on the flater nipple I still have severe pain when first latching on. I think its his mouth drawing the nipple out. If you had no problems pumping then it should make things alot easier when it comes time to breastfeed. Good luck!

I too have inverted nipples - I'm using Medela nipple shields currently, they're the only thing that would really get Lachlan to latch on and I find them really good. I could pinch my nipple to encourage it to come out but it wouldn't stay out long enough for him to latch, but now that I've been feeding him with shields for a few months we are able to get a latch without the shields so I'm slowly trying to feed more and more with just the bare nipple.

I definitely recommend using nipple shields for awhile, they've been a godsend xx :hugs: All the best
