so I feel like it's gonna be a girl, idk why. But just like last time, we had our boy name picked out but argued over girl names forever. My husband finally convinced me into loving Caoimhe, and even though my family as well as complete strangers CONTINUE to give us crap about the spelling, we don't regret it. I feel like Americanizing the name into like, Keeva or something would've been super gross and it takes so much away from the name. Plus I grew up with a name nobody can say it and it has never bothered me at all (Vaela).
Anyway, if we have a boy it's gonna be Elliott for sure so that's easy. However I'm really having trouble with girl names. After I dragged husband to see TFIOS he fell in love with the name Lidewij, pronounced Lidavye (or Lidawye? I guess it's the w/v sound). And I was on board for a while but I'm not as in love with the spelling as I was Caoimhe, but my main problem is that it's another "foreign" name yet it's not even from the same culture so it feels really weird?
Like, I'd have no problem naming our next girl another Irish name with the traditional spelling because at least they'd match. Plus we are both part Irish and we both always loved everything about Ireland so it doesn't feel that random, yknow? Whereas we are not Dutch or German or anything so it's like...wat.
But that said I still do love the name Lidewij, and I'm never going to respell a name because I feel it's disrespectful. We might still use it, idk.
But right now I'm really into the name Roisin, and I've scoured all the Irish baby name lists but I feel like there are probably some more I haven't seen or thought of. And so that's why I'm here, after that long winded speech lol.
Also, do you think Rosie would be at all an ok nickname for Roisin? I know Roisin is like, a rose name, but they don't sound the same and I don't want to look ignorant. I'm really into the name Rosie right now bc of The Killing haha. It's just so pretty. But I don't like naming kids nicknames and I don't want to name her just Rose. I kind of love Rosamund but idk how it goes with Caoimhe. Do siblings need to go together? It seems weirdish to have a Caoimhe and then like a more normal American-y name.
Her middle name would most likely by either Leigh or Risley (pronounced Rize-lee) depending on which sounds better. My daughters name is Caoimhe Dee.
Blah! I hope it's a boy just to not deal with this name stress again!
Sorry for the long post.
Ps: I also loooove the names Astrid and Ophelia. Like they are my favorites of all time but husband is not that into them. Also everyone seems to think Ophelia is a really depressing name? I get the Shakespeare reference but I really don't get it...
Ps 2: if you know of some Irish boy names you love feel free to mention them because you never know, we might find something we love more than Elliott.
