My LO is only 4 days old and her feeding seems to be all over the place and I'm not really sure that what we're doing with her is right. She doesn't have a set amount of time between feeds and my MW said to "demand feed" or feed when she ask's for it.. So we've been doing that but the problem is she seems to be going for ages without feeds.

She had a feed at 11 last night.. We made a 3oz bottle but she was still hungry so she then had a further 2oz. Then she woke up at 3 o clock and had 3 oz. And then she took 4oz when she woke up at 8.20 and she's just had 3oz 20 minutes ago. But in-between the 8.20 feed and the one she just had she hasn't had anything.. I did try to feed her when I changed her bum but she just wasn't interested.

Do you think it's ok to leave her that long?? I did ask my MW when she came out on day 1 and she said that it's fine to leave her if she's not asking for it because she wasn't feeding well on her first day and she also said not to force feed her but that just seems like a really long time to go without anything:shrug:

My midwife said to feed on demand but to not let her go more than 5 hours without food. Eloise was a lazy eater at 4/5 days too so we started giving her face a little wash to wake her up for it.

HTH x

when will was a few days old the midwife said really he needs feed every 4 hours and not to let him go past 6 hours, once we actually had to strip him off and wash his face with cool water to wake him up so he would feed if your worried mention it again to your midiwfe

Bella was like this, she would feed so randomly, like 2 hours, then 5, then 3. My midwife also said as long as she doesn't go more than 6 hours between feeds, she's ok. Bella slept alot as she was slightly jaundice so sometimes we had to wake her to feed.
