Not sure what section is best to ask this in. I had a super early scan at 5w3d today - which I wasn't into getting. I guess they scheduled me early because of previous mc and a clotting disorder? Only saw an irregular-shaped gestational sac. I noticed it and asked and the tech said, "Well, it's not terrible news...I can't tell if this will progress or not."

Anyone have this happen? All stories welcome, good or bad. I don't have a good feeling about this at all.

I had an irregular shaped gestational sac last year. Started off in the shape of a circle with a dip in it, like someone took a bite out of a cookie. It slowly turned into a banana shaped sac. The baby did start to grow, got to see his heartbeat and everything. Then the sac continued collapsing and the heartbeat slowed. I asked my doc if she had ever seen a sac like mine continue on to a healthy pregnancy and her reply was, "I've never seen a sac like yours with a heart beat!"

That pregnancy did sadly end in mc at 10 weeks. But I have read plenty of stories as well where the sac righted itself by the next scan and all was well. I know we all want answers but unfortunately it's just going to be one of those wait and see kind of things. Either it will correct itself and all is fine, or it will continue to collapse =/ sorry to give such a direct reply but you seemed like you were looking for the truth either way

Thanks, Eme. I was looking for any response, good or bad. So don't feel weird about telling me a sad story. I am so sorry for your losses.

I had an irregular shaped gestational sac with my first pregnancy, at the first scan they couldn't tell me if it would progress or not and at my second scan two weeks later I was diagnosed with having a molar pregnancy and my doctor said the irregular sac was an indication of it. Sorry my story isn't a positive one! Have they booked you in to have another scan soon?

That's ok. I figured I'm skewing the results to negative stories given that I'm on this board. I also asked on the gestational complications board. I have a scan in 12 days. Long wait. I wish I hadn't gone to this one. I knew it was too early, but the nurse suggested it. My hcg numbers were on the high end of normal (over 6,000) at 5w1d, so I thought maybe we wouldn't get bad news at 5w6d today.
