Im getting so confused with different names for things as im used to UK terminology and here they use US names.......last time I had a baby was 11 years ago and in England and babies slept in moses baskets (here, the equivalent to a bassinet?) until they were big enough for cot (here the equivalent to a crib?)
moses baskets seem not to exist in Peru and friends of my OH Ive asked what their babies slept in when newborn have said a pack and play.......is that a travel cot? and is that safe for a full time sleeping arrangement? do they have proper safety mattresses? I was back in England recently and all the baby shops seemed the same, geared towards moses basket then cot, all with safety mattresses. it seems silly but this is stressing me out daily at the moment and OH keeps finding me in tears as Im so worried baby wont have anything suitable to sleep in and I dont really have any one to help as my UK friends dont understand that there arent any moses baskets here and I think OH thinks im being neurotic but im so scared of SIDS and so used to what im used to back in England.
a pack and play seems to be a playpen to me, so can a baby really sleep in that?

Alot of people in the US use pack and plays for LO to sleep in. Then they dont have to buy the basinette/moses basket and can keep LO in the room and the P n P last longer. They are not low to the ground anymore, they have like a little loft in them so you dont have to reach all the way down. Some have a basinette/raised moses basket in them too. I dont know of any in the US besides the Arms Reach Co sleeper that is rated safe for sleeping but I know that alot of people use them for sleeping and have no problems!

btw your teminolgy sounds correct to me! But I am in the US so not sure...

what about a cradle?? what the heck do their kids sleep in? does everyone co-sleep?

I said that to OH today! what do peoples babies sleep in FFS!! he got a bit offended

darlingme you replied on my other thread ha ha and im still stressing! can you get seperate safety mattresses for these P&P´s do you know? as the ones ive seen here are plastic and hard I just cant see that being suitable for newborn sleeping!

oh im looking at arms reach website now and now I really want one!!!! cant bring myself to check their shipping as im sure they wont ship to peru!

I know you can order the basinette mattresses online but I would be worried about it not fitting the right way which can be a risk too! They say the firmness is supposed to be better anyhow but hard plastic sounds awful!

The green one is pack n play, you can see the basinette attachment. The ones in US come with a mattress. The have like a hammock type thing that hangs like halfway down with a 1-2 inch mattress.

The pink basket is a moses basket here, I think they are raised in the UK though?

The cream one is the co-sleeper, some of the models turn into pack in plays too.

I did post to your last one. I was thinking that the US dollar is really low right now if you do order u should order from here. Shipping might be a little cheaper, and cost will definately be since the dollar sucks right now! It might be same price as getting something moved or taking it on the plane from Lima! Again not sure about customs though... I wonder if you can get one made somewhere?

yes ive found that since keep reading that you arent meant to put different mattresses in as that in itself can be a danger.

oh the halfway thing is the sleeping bassinet part ha ha!! I thought it was the little thing right on top.....what is that then?

yes the cream one is what im now in love with and want! trying to find a seller on amazon who will ship here, even then it will be shipped to Lima so OH will have to collect it when he goes there! we could get a normal wooden cot made but would still need a mattress. who would have thought it would be so difficult no wonder my friends think im mad having a baby so far from home!! :dohh:

The little thing on the top is a diaper changer part. it flips off and the middle thing halfway down comes out so when LO sits up they can sit lower. I hope they ship somewhere for you! I was looking at the co-sleepers since before we got pg. I found one "used" in a local shop but it was really brand new, it still had tags on it and has a manufacturer date of Jan 2010. Paid $40, they are $150 new! They only are good for up to 4 months or so. I guess you could use the playpen part when they start to sit up?

I hope you find something and it doesnt cost you an arm and leg! I am frustrated for you! :hugs:

ah I see! thanks for explaining lol! wow thats a bargain! yes, would use as a playpen afterwards, plus im hoping for more babies so anything I buy this time will be used in the future.
ah thank you, me too! x
