Is anybody a nurse/doctor or have medical knowledge /had children in hospital

I am currently in hospital with my five month old. He has a severe uti and yesterday had a kidney scan to make sure there was nothing major there. When we left the scan room they said I'd get the results when we got upstairs. Nobody has come to talk to me as last night I found out they had to call yorkhill children's hospital so obviously it's something bad that's needing treated quickly. I have asked twice to nurses but they both said the doctor won't tell me anything until yorkhill have called back with what they want to do.

Now I understand they can't tell me what they're going to do until yorkhill call but surely they have an obligation to tell me what is wrong with my baby?? Please any advice if you can.

I don't understand why they can't tell you what's going on even if they don't have all the answers yet. Can you catch one of the doctors directly? Is there a ward round this morning?

There's one starting in 30 minutes. I'm going to demand some answers and my sister should be here by then too xx

Hey I got my answers today. Well some of them anyway. He has got a fluid filled cyst in his bladder which is blocking the urine flow from his right kidney. Also means the right ureter is dilated he also has an extra ureter on the left side. We have to wait for yorkhill children's hospital to call on Monday to say what is going to be happening xx

I have no advice but I hope all goes well for your little boy, there are lots of support groups on Facebook for children with conditions in this area.

Thank you! We get out today on antibiotics. Up at Glasgow next week to the new children's hospital. I'll have a look for those groups thank you! Xx

he sure is hun. At the moment he has 5ml of Trimethoprim until we goto Yorkhill on Wednesday and then it might get lowered to just 2.5ml. He still has slightly higher CRP when we left hospital hense the higher dose xx

Wow that is high, my LO is on just 3ml at 3 years old. I hope all goes well at Yorkhill!

Thanks Hun. I think it's so high to a)kill the kidney infection and b) make sure no infections return as they may make his cyst grow and completely block his ureter off.

Can I ask where about in Scotland you are Hun? I'm sorry your daughters dealing with similar things Hun. Has as been treated at yorkhill? Xx

Ah, I see! I am in Orkney but my son's doctor is in Aberdeen (he comes up 4 times a year and for certain scans/procedures we travel down) and the only other hospital we've been to is Edinburgh Sick Kids where he was initially transferred to for his urosepsis treatment and investigations. I personally hadn't heard of Yorkhill until reading this post.

ah yorkhill is Glasgows versions of Edinburgh sick kids they just specialise in different bits i think. im glad he comes to you sometimes hun thats a long way to travel xx

Ahh, I see! At least you don't have a huge distance to travel but anywhere not local is far enough when you have your child! Going down isn't too bad though as it's a 30 minute flight so pretty straight forward if it's a planned trip down! I'm sure I've heard very positive things about Glasgow's childrens hospital!

oh wow i thought it would be a lot longer than 30 minutes. It will take us 2 hours to get to Glasgow. Yorkhill is amazing.. we have been there before when he stopped breathing at 12 days old.. we spent three weeks going between PICU and HDU so i know they will take great care of him. hes had a hard start to life bless him.
