Hey all. My baby is currently in Neonatal ICU -despite being a week overdue (was just because of traumatic birth). I have been pumping milk for them to feed him when I'm not there; he bottle feeds what they say he should, about 70-80mls, which I can usually pump in about 20 mins (10 on each side, though one side produces a bit more). Naturally, I would think I should be breast feeding for the same amount of time to give him that same amount, however I have a hard time getting him to nurse for 15 minutes before he fusses or falls asleep.

Is it possible that he is pulling out more than my electric pump would, and he is still getting enough in 15 mins- he usually sucks pretty vigorously.
(He is currently 6 days old). He should be coming home tomorrow, and I want to make sure when I am mainly nursing that he will still get enough.

Baby's are way more efficient at getting milk out than a pump.

I second the above post .It takes me about 15-20 minutes to feel my breast empty while pumping .but with my LO latched on- it hardly takes him 10 minutes .
