is higher than normal blood pressure an early pregnancy sign??

i went to the doctors today and had my blood pressure checked and it was higher than normal... but not too high, i think it was like 150 over 140, something like that! im so scared now... and im wanting to know if it can be a pregnancy sign/symptom?? thanks

Hi there,

It wouldn't be 150/140 because that would be an emergency. If the top figure was around 150 that is considered higher than normal as the normal range goes to about 120/80 or thereabouts. I imagine that you might have been stressed and that can cause high blood pressure, and I suppose pregnancy could in theory as your blood volume increases, but I'm unsure about pregnancy and blood pressure. I would go back to the docs to have it checked again, on both arms, or do it at a chemist where they have that available for free checks. Take care x
