Is it an urban myth that if your waters break in a shop you get free stuff?

If it's not I'm going to spend the next few weeks doing laps around Selfridges drinking flasks of raspberry tea!

I have heard a rumour in the past about if your waters break in mothercare you get free stuff dunno if its true though x

I heard B&Q give you a voucher if your waters go, may have even been on here. We are building a new house so Im off there everyday from 38 weeks onwards haha x

It is true in some shops. B&Q apparently give you about £500 in vouchers and woman on till in M&S last week asked how long I'd got left and told me that M&S 'look after you' if your waters break in store. That said I'd much much rather it happened at home or preferably in hospital towards the end of labour!

i'd die of embarassment if mine went in a shop/in public. I think people underestimate how much comes out LOL

I've heard this before.. I've heard asda give you free shopping vouchers if they go in there.
Who know's if its a myth or not lol

I was told this when on our Antenatal/Early Parenting classes, the Midwife said places like boots, debenhams and marks and spencer have been known ect give you stuff up to the value of £250 sometimes for your baby

The lady on the till in Sainsburys told DH yesterday that if my waters went in store I'd get free nappies for a year.... needless to say he immediately suggested that next time we go I take a bottle of water with me to pour down my trousers!! :dohh: :haha:

I wouldn't mind, but we don't need nappies as we're using cloth and even if we did, I'd rather buy them than go through the embarrassment of having my waters break whilst out... let alone faking it! :nope:

Ive heard that it happens if its a supermarket like tesco and asda etc, but never just normal shops. Dont know if any of it is true though. I know mine will go in public somewhere.....its just my luck....

Note to self: bring liter bottle of water into Harrods.

Have found this! https://www.thebabywebsite.com/article.1676.Bonus_For_Mums_Whose_Waters_Break_In_BQ.htm

So looks as though it isn't a myth! It would probably be my luck that I would go to B&Q and arrive home and then they would break at home! Hahah.

Yes it's true or was a few years ago, I used to work in Boots and they did some sort of deal where they supplied loads of freebies if your waters broke there or you gave birth :D

I was also told by someone on checkout in Sainsbury's that if my waters break in there then I'll get free nappies for a year.

I've never heard of this, but I do recall a news story a while back about a woman who gave birth in Walmart and they gave her a ton of free baby stuff. Personally that's not how I'd want my birthing experience to start or end

its very rare for your waters to be the first sign of labour starting anyway. they normally go whilst your in established labour!

Plus shops wont give out freebies for a faker they'll want to know it definately is!

Agreed!
There are always exceptions to the rule, but I think the majority of women will have had some other signs that their labour was progressing before their waters broke!

Knowing my bloody luck mine would go somewhere thats useless, like gaming shop or something!

My waters broke before anything else happened  and then nothing happened after that, had to be induced lol.

I'm sure I heard if you give birth or waters break in a pub they'll give you free drinks? Obviously after baby is out lol. That would depend on the pub though. xxx
