Is it easy to change utilities suppliers?

We have just moved having previously been with SSE for gas and electric who I have always been with and happy with, but this house is British Gas, for ease I just stayed with British Gas but with the news of the price hikes out of protest I want to look into moving and for the first time ever actually look at what would be the most reasonable for us (I know they're all as bad as each other and they will all be raising their prices, but 10% on electricity is criminal!!!) so any advice?

Yes it's very easy, have a look at www.uswitch.com. Once you've signed up with a new supplier, all you have to do is give them a meter reading and they will pass that on to your old supplier for your final bill. It generally takes about a month for the switch to be completed.
