I was just wondering, is there an increased chance of miscarrying if you've already MC? I didn't even reach 5 weeks last time, and I keep thinkin I'm gona start bleedin at any second, I musta checked about 50 times today. I've looked it up, but can't really find anything except 1 in 4 pregnancies fail, I cannot relax at all  How common are chemicals? OH says I shudn't test until I'm a week late the way 'normal' people do, but it's hard to explain it's different when ur TTC, cus you wana know the very second you get pregnant! I'm a day late now, but can't settle at all  I think I'll be ok if I get to 6 weeks!

Also, my doc isn't very nice, but I have to go in to her next week to talk about somethin else, can I ask for hcg bloods, since I mc before? I asked last time when my tests started getting lighter before I started bleeding, but she told me to just bring in a pee sample to leave at reception so they could use one of their tests, as they didn't do bloods? It's put my mind at ease at least, so surely she should?

Slightly.
For one MC, the likelihood goes from 10% to 13% after 6 weeks. It gets higher for 2 or more MC.
MC overall are about 25% yes, but after 6 weeks that drops, and drops even further after 8 weeks and so on.

You're almost no more likely to mc after 1 mc than a woman who has never had one. I had a mc and now have a healthy girl. Try not to worry - I'm sure this one is a sticky one for you! :D

You are NO more likely to miscarry again after just one. I read the miscarriage association book that said almost all of us will have one, but many dont no.

I was told after one, the risk is the same if you never had one, after two it goes up, and after three it goes up further, but the risk never goes higher after that. So...how do they figure these things out anyways??

Probably based on stats.

I hope everything works out well for all of you. I also hope you can all relax and enjoy your pregnancies as best as possible. *hugs* to everyone!

the risk is not higher than before just because you have had a mc but the risk does remain the same 1-4 xxxx

This pregnancy feel so different, so I clinging onto this as a good sign

Hi, one doc said to me no more likely to miscarry than before - 1 in 4. Another said to me it was unlikely that I'd miscarry again although he said he couldn't rule it out (obvioulsy). He told me to try & relax & de stress but that it was natural to worry. I feel different with this one & that has made me v positive. Also I had v faint lines before & this time I had a really dark one straight away - that made me feel more positive. Take anything you can to help you feel more positive & cling to it!

Like the other girls have said - if you have only had one mc then the risk are the same as any other woman.

I had a mc at 5 weeks and tomorrow I will be 15 weeks pregnant.

Im not going to say try and relax as i know its incredibly difficult to do so after a mc, but you will get there :hugs:

The EPU staff told me at the time it was no more likely. Some studies have suggested a very very slight increase but these have been proven incorrect - subject to other variables. :hugs:

the girls are right, for the past 2 yrs i have had 5 losses, with each loss i have been checking how much my risk has increased of having another loss now! it only really rises after 3 losses, 2 can still be down to just 'bad luck'. However most women who have 1 m/c go on to have a successful pregnancy next time
i know it's a worrying time but please, try not too worry too much, we cant change anything by worrying xxx

You have explaned things the same as me. I had a faint poisitive last time although it did get darker over a week. Where as this time it was strong. I also felt very different this time.

Hun, I had 2 perfect pregnancies and then MC and now 24 weeks. I have a friend who had 2 children, 8 MC and now has a beautiful daughter, another friend had 1 MC and now a healthy little girl too. I don't think having a MC necessarily determines that you are more likely to have another, it does just make you so much more aware and nervous.

i think it probably has more to do with *why* you miscarried. Bear in mind, all of these odds are calculated by statistics which have a lot of variables. if someone has a problem with their "engine", then they are probably more likely to miscarry again. I went to see my GP after my second loss in december (first one in november) and she told me that it isn't completely unheard of to lose two in a row. However i think that when it is just down to bad luck (hopefully like it was for me) your chance of losing again isnt any higher than usual :hugs:

i am checking constantly at the moment too, hun, so i know how you feel. :hugs:

Hi hun like others have said the risk doesn't go up unless you have 2 or more. Definately ask about getting a blood test done your doctor can't refuse you! If he/she does get a second opinion. x

well.....I mc again last night :( Goin to docs tomro, but she mighn't do anything cus it's only the 2nd :(

Lizzie definatley issist on getting some tests done, my doctor is lovely and offered me tests after my first M/C I stupidly said no as she told me it was just bad luck and here I am staring M/C number 3 in the face and so wishing I had took her up on those tests! Good luck.xxx

Hope this isn't ur rd hun xx What sorta tests can they do?
