Hi, well I went ot the midwife today to explain about my increased discharge and itching. She said she can't prescribe so to book an appintment with the Gp? So I called them up and she said she would get the nurse to call me back, which to be fair she did.
I told her that I had increase discharge and it was making things a bit itchy. She then basically said 'ah so it's thrush basically and said she would write me a prescription I could pick up anytime this afternoon'.
It could be thrush yes but surely without looking at me can how can they be sure, she t ask what kind of discharge or if there was a smell, or if I'd had it for long etc. Is this normal? Guess I'll use the pessary and cream to see if it helps and tbh I'm glad not to have an internal but is it normal?

All the times I've been given treatment for thrush, it was simply by telling the doc my symptoms. I've never actually had an internal exam before or during pregnancy. So I'd say it's normal. :)

they will only tend to do an internal examination with things like this if it is also causing you pains.
they try to steer clear from doing internals though as it can upset things a bit down there, i.e irritate the cervix, the uterus or even both which can be fatal if too much irritation occurs.
to me it sounds like thrush though hun. xx

ok that's good then, we'll see if it works then.
can't wait to get the free prescriptions, sods law for me to get it a few weeks before getting the form.

when you colloect it just inform them you are pregnant and just waiting for your maternity exemption certificate to arrive, they should give it to you for free then. i know alot of places tend to do this and then just say bring your certificate with you next time you pick up a prescription. xx

oh right, i didn't know that! too late just picked it up and paid £14 :dohh:

I thought free prescriptions were from 8 weeks. When I went to the midwife to ask about thrush she took a swab and I had to wait for the results before anything. I was told I could use canesten cream for the itching until then, but the results came back clear.

God knows, I give up with the health profession. It's taken weeks to get set up and registered with the doctor and midwife since moving house, a million phone calls, forms etc then I get a prescription without anyone checking if it's right or not!
