If not sooner! I've only once got 5 hours out of him and a couple of times 4 hours but he barely makes it 3 hours before nothing but food settles him. Even then he can't get rid of all his wind he dosnt settle but he at least settles in my arms after food. I'm sure it's not normal, he is having 5oz and sometimes a couple more an hour later if I'm struggling with him.he will be 5 weeks tomorrow:nope:

Sounds ok to me? At that age my baby had only just started every 3 hrs it was every 2 before then only now at 14 weeks does he go for 4 hrs between feeds. He's only been doing this the last 2 to 3 weeks

Thanks, he just seems constantly hungry and won't settle. Even right after feeds :(

There is a grow spurt at 6 weeks so maybe your LO is going through it a little bit early? Also might be to do with the hot weather? What milk is he on?

They say babies only feed when hungry so I'd keep it going if he wants it.

how is your baby sleeping at night? every 2 1/2 to 3 hours is normal for a baby of that age. My little girl is 5 weeks old tomorrow and has about 2-4oz every 3 hours and then tends to cluster feed in the evening. its better than she takes a feed regularly throughout the day rather than waking up in the night to fill up on what she missed out during the day x

He is on SMA gold. He is sick though when he feeds too often so I don't think it's hunger exactly, it may be a comfort thing, I'm wondering if it is reflux, I'm considering trying comfort milk if its a bit thicker. He does get hot though do maybe the weather dosnt help. It's so hard to know!

Is your baby fussing between feeds? Mine won't let me put him down! He calms a bit on the evening. Like now, he stopped the fussing at about 7pm and he had his last feed at 4.45pm so this is the longest he has gone all day. He did this last night, too. He then wakes for his feed, goes back to sleep for a few hours and by the next feed, say 3am, he starts getting irritable again and full of wind, I could actually put him down last night but every few minutes he would make a grizzly noise due to wind I assume. He just can't bring it up enough on a night, he's full of it!

They say that SMA is quite a rich milk so maybe too much doesn't agree with him? We put our LO on C&G comfort as she had problems with wind and her numbers 2's all sorted now though! It's such a difficult one with relflux as we thought our LO has this but it seems the doctors only care if LO isn't gaining weight which is annoying when your LO is clearly in some sort of discomfort! Is he good with his wind?

Have your tried infacol or gripe water to help with wind? Gripe water really does the trick with our LO. Is the fussiness a recent thing?

He is only pooing once a day at the moment, in the middle of the night which is new, I'd be glad if the comfort milk helped with that! He does bring wind up, and we are using Infacol but he still seems to have even more wind, it never ends! He ends up struggling for hours and then I hear him passing it himself like a machine gun just before his next bottle! (Bottom end) I haven't tried gripe water yet though.
The fussiness has just started recently. I mean, he had the odd time of day but never all day like this

Have you tried Colief? My baby is on comfort milk but that's because he's constipated and very windy he's doing very well on it but I wouldn't have put him on it if he wasn't constipated.

I've heard SMA can be quite heavy for newborns

He is going once a day and its loose, but I feel he needs to go more considering the volume of what's going in! I haven't tried it yet as I've heard it pricey p was going to go for the usual changes first then try that. I was using the cheap pound shop/ wilko bottles as the hospital said babies like them better. But he's drinking way too fast so have changed to my other tommee tippee slow flow ones to see if that helps at all. Only used them once so not sure yet. OH is getting comfort milk and gripe water now on his way back from work just to see if it helps. After that its colief and maybe anti colic bottles and after that the drs! Lol, well I've got a plan now atleast!

Once a day is very normal, my baby was going every 5 days or so.

Colief you can get on prescription but the comfort milk should do about the same as colief. Be warned your baby might have an upset tummy for the next day or two due to the milk change you will have to at least give it a week to see if it's working and also comfort milk gives really, really loose green smelly poos!

The bottles will also help I only use Dr Brown's bottles and they make a massive difference.

she only gets fussy when she is overtired and i had this problem with my first. he used to guzzle about 8oz a shot and then still be looking for more milk when in reality he was actually trying to comfort himself as he was so over tired. my little girl sometimes does this after a bottle and she will fuss until she burps and then can want more an hour or so later. i tend to just go with it and give her the extra ounce or so as she is usually just topping herself up....obviously im not saying ur little one is overtired. he may be just a hungry baby. my son went onto to hungry baby milk at about 8 weeks as he was taking in excess of 40oz over 24hours. it was awful. it could just be a growth spurt that hes going through tho xx

we are using cow and gate and even then my lo is still way more windy than she was when breastfeeding but i suppose thats to be expected x

The guzzling could explain the sickness as we found the when LO was guzzling her aptimal.

Let us know how you get on with comfort milk. Be mindful you may have to get size 2 teats as it's a thicker milk the have to work harder. The tommee tippee teats are on offer 2 for £6 in asda but see how he goes first I'd say.

Every three hours is perfect! My little boy is 7 months and only just going 4 hours! If the baby is fussing during feeds pulling away from the teat etc it could be silent reflux

Up until last week my 6 month old was still being fed every 3 hours! Somehow he knew when 3 hours were up even if he was asleep hed wake up at the right time!!
Hes now on 2 meals a day and has become less interested in bottles so ive dropped one bottle and spread out the other 4 a bit but hes still fed every 3 hours its just mostly food now!
