is it ok to have 12 cycles of clomid as long as you have a break in between?

I was prescribed 6 months of clomid back in may and told to come back if i needed more, gynaecologist said after the initial 6 months I could have another 6 and then that was the limit. I took 3 rounds and got pregnant on the 3rd round but sadly miscarried. I have just finished my first round after miscarriage (4th overall) which was unsuccessful (in terms of pregnancy but i did ovulate) so have taken more clomid this month. As this is my 5th round overall but only my second after having almost 3 months off I am panicking as I have read online that you can only take 6 rounds not twelve! Should i trust my gynae and just keep taking the clomid or should i request femera?

Also, how do you stop yourself from being so down and panicking so much that it won't work? i am an absolute mess at the moment, so down about miscarriage and so worried it won't happen again. We are in discussion about whether we can afford IVF should it come to it and we are not sure we can, although we will have to just beg steal and borrow i think. Thanks so much in advance. x

So sorry for your loss! I'm also interested in the answer to this question, being on my 3rd round of Clomid myself. I read on the internet that 3-6 cycles is recommended, but I guess your gyno wouldn't recommend 12 to you unless he thought it would be safe? I don't know... I had 2 cycles of it back in June myself but also miscarried. Started taking it again later this year, and got pregnant on my 2nd cycle, but it was a chemical pregnancy. So that's been 5 rounds so far - most of which weren't even well timed with BD!! I'm really curious if having a break between makes it safer to continue taking it. Hopefully someone else will chime in!

I went through six from March 2011 to September 2011 and was advice in November 2011 to keep taking it until A) get pregnant or B) I get the injections I am on the waiting list for.

At the end of the day, these guys are considered to be the 'experts' of the Fertility world and I trust my FS not to d anything that will have any negative effects my chances.

Thanks guys, it's just so confusing with all the conflicting information! I know i should really make another appt and go back to see specialist but it costs money each time so can't afford to keep going! Sorry for your loss, too, Zeri, it is harder than i ever imagined it could be. xx

The fertility nurses at my hospital told me that you are allowed 12 cycles of clomid only in your entire lifetime, I don't think it matters if you take them on back to back cycles or spread over a longer period but once you've had 12 cycles you can't have anymore I believe.

Thanks twinkle2. Carebear - I hope that's not true! :( I believe I'm on m 7th cycle now... spread out over a couple years. I need to ask my gyn about this too.
