I had been making them fresh apart from his night feeds but now after looking on here I've been doing 90ml cooled boiled water and doing 5 bottles at a time and then topping up with 90ml boiled water and formula when needed - however I realised the water has to be be 70 degrees to kill off bacteria - is it ok to do it like this?

To be honest I had never heard that the water had to be that temperature before I started seeing people talking about it on here. On the back of the formula my LO is on it says cooled boiled water, nothing about having to be a certain temp. I usually make his bottle with warm boiled water, and I've always done it this way and he has had no problems. I'd go with whatever it says on the tin :)

My midwife always said to boil water and to let it cool for 20 minuets before adding the formal, i would have thought that it would be around the same temp as this way so i would say it's fine. If your worried though could you speak to your health visitor about it?

Well now I've been doing 60ml cooled boiled water and then topping up with fresh boiled water. I had been doing it the way it said on the tin - but I was looking for an easier way as I was constantly on edge clock watching etc. If obviously this way is not good I'll go back to the way the tin says.I can't see how this would be a problem as the reason you can;t put the water straight from the kettle is in because the steam makes the formula stick to the measure so you don;t get exactly the right amount in there as it clumps to the spoon. So I was thinking that by having a bit of cooled boiled water at the bottom that if I put hot water on top of it that that would make it still hot enough to dissolve formula etc but cool enough to take the steam off the hot water.
Will ask my HV what she thinks. TBH some people make their formula for the day up in the morning. I just wanted to make sure that my way was hot enough to kill off the bacteria
