Just wondering... I have PCOS, I had to have fertility treatment to conceive DD, 2 x 50mg clomid did nothing, but 100mg clomid worked, I ovulated 3 times on 100mg but failed to fall pregnant, but a stroke of luck, a month off meds and mind off baby making fell pg with my daughter :D so basically clomid kick started my ovaries into ovulating naturally :happydance:

and even better, since having my daughter, I've been having periods. Whereas before I had absoluyely no cycles at all for nearly a year without the help of meds.

now obv I can't guarantee I'm definitely ovulating, but my cycles are roughly every 40 days, I've had the odd really long one (60 odd) and short one (27) but according to my app, average is about 43 days? I've never been on contraception since having DD but I wouldn't say we were really trying either... I'm just wondering if people do fall pregnant with a 40 odd day cycle?? I'm thinknig of going to the doctors soon to ask to be referred to a fertility specialist again, I would like another baby and from what I remember the process of being referred can be quite lengthy...? if I can conceive naturally though, that would be fantastic :D

You can fall pregnant with long cycles but you may have to take some extra steps to help it along. Start with charting for sure..since your cycles are irregular it is even more important to know when you ovulate exactly (if you are in fact ovulating) a period doesn't always mean you ovulated unfortunately. I would even use opks even tho they can give you false positives with pcos mainly because if you get a positive and a bbt surge you can be more sure you ovulated than by temping or using opks alone. Lastly consider trying something to make your cycles more regular such as maca, dong quai , or vitex. Vitex in specific seems to work most successfully for women with pcos and it shortened my long cycles significantly. GOOD LUCK!

I fell pregnant on a 47 day cycle. That's only because I charted and checked my cervix position and mucus. If I didn't, I would've had no idea when I ovulated.

It doesn't matter how long your cycle is, as long as you ovulate and have a good luteal phase. Secretly, I like to think it's better when it's a longer cycle because you have a thicker endo lining for the fertilised egg to stick to and absorb into lol! Don't know if there's any scientific fact to that!

Good luck xx

Thanks guys :cloud9: I think I might buy some OPKs. I used to chart when I was ttc my daughter but I was never very good at it :-S lol. I kind of wanted to be relaxed about ttc this time around but I guess I can't with PCOS. I think I might still ask to be referred as I imagine it will take a few months to be seen...

I don't suppose a GP will prescrubed clomid will they?...unlikely lol I imagine they will want to do a blood test too... just makes the whole process longer!

I actually have 4 clomid tablets left over from last time... I don't know what happened to the 5th one... what would happen if I were to only take 4 of 5 would it not work? xxx (not suggestng i would as I don't know if it's safe to take clomid without being monitored?) x

Taking one less than your stated dose wouldn't matter, it's for their records to know how many clomid you take. In America, some dosages are 3 days only.

I don't know if you would be given clomid again, it depends on what is going wrong. I never ovulated, so clomid was ideal. But after losing weight I ovulated by myself. A GP can't prescribe it to you a on/gyn fertility specialist can.

While on clomid the opks were so accurate, however in recent months without clomid, they haven't. They get darker but never a positive, then went faint again.

It us entirely up to you if you take the clomid. After my second month of clomid they weren't going to monitor me till my 6th round if I hadn't fell pregnant. The monitoring isn't for your safety, it's to check progression. So if you can do without the scans and sizes etc then it's in your favour.

Hmm that's interesting, makes me think that maybe I could just take the clomid I have then? x I can't imagine there's a lot else a FS could prescibe me, as I've been diagnosed with PCOS and it seemed to work last time, I don't really know of anything else they can do?

I feel like I would sort of have to be very careful about taking the clomid I have, as I've only got one round you know? I wonder though, do you think perhaps if I took it one month (and didn't fall pregnant) it might shorten my cycles?

That's fantastic that losing weight has helped you! congratulations on your weight loss! x did you follow a particular diet if you don't mind me asking? I wondered if that may have contributed to me having periods too that I lost a little bit of weight after having DD. I am trying to shift the last few lbs, I feel like I've been saying that forever lol.

I followed the Terri-Ann 123 diet plan and lost 4 stone with it in 6 months. It's a one off payment for a booklet and she has a private Facebook page too where members share recipes, photos, concerns etc. it's fab! Lots of ladies with pcos too. I'm one of their success stories.

I'm neither advising or deterring you about the clomid. But if it was me with one more round, I would take it when I felt ready.

In January, I phoned up my fertility specialist to see what they wanted to do with my remaining 4 rounds and that my periods had returned. They wanted me to have another period to make sure that my one in December wasn't a fluke and the fact it would make it my second one after my miscarriage. Being a 47 day cycle, I had to wait ages especially with February being a short month! So technically my next af was due second week of march but it never came due to bfp.

If it had come, I would've taken my next round and been scanned, then they wouldn't have seen me till I finished the rounds. It's all about saving money for them really. They weren't interested in the fact my periods had returned or that in fact I ovulated at all. Taking clomid may have caused hyper stimulation of my ovaries but I won't know until I'm scanned.

It's a risk I would've taken.

If you have periods and ovulate AND they still prescribed you clomid, then it's probably safe especially if it's only 50mg.

I did find that I had a good sized cycle of 31 days while on clomid. But I can't compare it to anything as I didn't have natural cycles since coming off the pill. My luteal phase was 11/12 days long which is quite short and didn't ovulate till like cd20!

It's different for each lady.

Hope this gives a bit more insight. Only you and your partner can choose what's right. It might be worth ringing up the person who prescribed it to you in first place. Have faith in what you choose and never regret anything x

ah that's fantastic, well done!! xxx :cloud9:

ah that's wonderful that you got a natural BFP in the end! congratulations :happydance: I don't think i would be able to phone up my FS .. hmm I guess i could try, but I've moved since then to another area, I think from what I remember he was impossible to get hold of. I guess the only thing I can do really is go to my GP ask to be referred (as I think it takes a while) ask for their advice re: taking clomid, and see what they say?... they was my main concern I guess - hyper stimulation? x I don't know if it's a high risk? .. and if it seems ok I could take the clomid while waiting to be referred, and hope that maybe I never need the appointment or something...

I think when I was on clomid I had the same processes as you, I was scanned maybe once or twice at the most, but most of the time they left me to it... hmmm .. my cycles were quite long when I was on clomid from what I remember, 30 + days, maybe up to 35. (from memory??) but that was when i didn't have periods at all beforehand. I guess you don't know until you try? x
