I had dedicated myself to painting all the doors in my home black, but I just found out I'm pregnant and about 4 1/2 weeks along. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm specifically using the paint below:

Hi,

Can you call the company and ask if it's safe for pregnant women to paint with? Personally, I am overly cautious, so I wouldn't until I called the company and asked my OB. Do you have to paint?

That's a great idea. I just tried calling, but they're obviously closed, but I'm going to give them a call! :)

And I kinda' do have to paint...hubby really doesn't want to get involved (he was against the project in the first place). I figure worse case scenario, I wait until after baby is here to finish.

Well we were in the middle of redecorating our living room when I got my BFP. Hubby ended up painting the remainder of the room by himself, partly to be cautious, and partly cause I ended up not being able to stand the smell of paint any more (we were spreading out the painting over a week).

I personally wouldn't paint in 1st tri, but I did in 2nd & 3rd or else the nursery never would've got finished!

If you will, then dont let the paint get on you, definitely wear a mask so you cant inhale the paint aromas. So, a full body suit + a mask. The dangerous thing about this is exactly the aroma, which you have to be careful about. Otherwise have fun painting. :)

My job is to paint...I paint using silicones and diluent a which are a different type of paint but the same type of thing... It's my job so I have to do it, but I wear a respirator mask, gloves and have a window open and try to get fresh air as much as possible... I think most emulsion paints are fairly safe these days if you take these precautions... But I'm not so sure about gloss paints...
I would definitely call the company and get the data sheet... I always check before I use anything so I know I'm protecting myself and baby as much as possible...
Xxx

Ps you can buy masks in most DIY shops...just check the one you but has the right protection as a dust mask would not protect against fumes just dust particles... They are usually about £20 and last about a month before the filters need changing! I use mine at home when I'm cleaning the bathroom etc too! Xxx

One part thing... Take lots if breaks because wearing z mask too long also lower oxygen intake so every half hour get some fresh air! That's it I think ;0) xxx

I let my dh decorate, I went out whilst he painted as even though we use breatheasy by crown which has minimal voc's there are still fumes that are given off, dh was happy to take over (he's not at good at cutting in as me!) as he didn't want me to be exposed in the first trimester:) xx

Not in the first trimester. Wait until you pass 12 weeks and then go ahead. Right now you need to rest. One of my past MC's occured soon after I moved into our new home and painted my daughters room....The doctor cannot confirm if it was genetic, hormonal, or due to the move and painting. Because of this I am always causious and refuse to paint until I know the baby has a nice strong, nutrient rich placenta to take care of it.

I just re-read the question...even though I paint for my job I didn't work for during the first trimester...it's such a sensitive stage and also I just felt so ill I didn't have the energy! Xxx

I was wanting to do paint by numbers for a hobby, I wonder if it would be ok

I think you can buy paints that don't have the VOC's in it so it is safer for you. I would still avoid it in the 1st trimester though. Definitely doesn't hurt to call and ask them:)
