My OH is starting a new job tomorrow and I've just been reading the eligibility for paternity leave on the government website. I thought it would be the same as maternity leave, that you would have to work for the them for 26 weeks before the birth, I didn't realize they had to be there for 26 weeks by the time I'm 25 weeks. I'm really worried now that he's not going to get time off for the baby and I had a c section last time, if I have to have one again I don't know how I will cope with a 5 year old and a newborn on my own.

He won't be eligible for paternity leave paid but if he talks to his employer they will usually be reasonable and allow unpaid or annual leave.

MY oh wasn't entitled, but he talked to his employer and once they were told the amount they just gave him the time and paid him as its like £280 for the 2 weeks.

My oh was eligible but he would end up losing too much money so he just took 2 weeks holiday instead.

No he won't be eligible. My hubby was in the same position that he took a new job during my pregnancy. His new employer said he could put in holiday at short notice to have some time home with us, but in the end they said they didn't have enough staff in as it was school holidays and everyone was away so he only got the one day off, the day we brought him home.

Same here. I was lucky as Charlie arrived on the Friday if a 5 day weekend that was rota'd in. Otherwise he wouldn't have had any time off. However employers are normally a little forgiving so as long as you keep them informed they usually at least try to help. Good luck x

I hope the employer turns out to be understanding and lets him take annual leave etc. Is there anyone like family/close friends you could ask to help if stuck?
