Ok this might be a stupid question, but does anyone know if there is a so called 'optimum' weight for TTC? I know that either extreme is not very good - i.e. being very overweight or very underweight, but I wondered if there is an ideal weight?

I presume as long as your BMI is in the normal range this is considered the best TTC environment.

That said though, I've never stepped out of the 'ideal bmi' range in my life and I'm still not pregnant. So fekk knows ey?

:hugs:

A BMI of between 20-22 according to my new FS - although he did say build, fitness etc should also be taken into account.

Well I'm within that range so I guess thats one less possible 'problem' to worry about. Thanks. x

Experts say you need to be no more than 24 bmi. but I take this with a pinch of salt. Those of my friends / family TTCing who haven't got preggo yet are the healthier ones - slim, eat well, exercise regularly, don't smoke etc (including myself, though am more 'curvy' than slim but still a size 8-10) and all those a little heavier (some of which are very heavy and / or never exercise and eat crap) got preggo straight away. So as Nathyrra said, fekk knows ey?

Hubby suggested I start eating burger and smoking cos then I might get preggo. He has a point....

heheh that or sleep around, get plastered each weekend, stop working and live on benefits whilst watching jeremy kyle all day... that seems to work for the people I see who are heavily pregnant at the mo ;)

TrixieLox, its funny you should say that as I'd noticed the same thing. It may be complete coincidence, but myself and another friend of mine have been TTC for a while now (she's been trying about 3 years and just started having tests while for us its a year and a few months). Neither of us has ever had a BFP. Since myself and hubby have been trying I've known 5 people (close friends/ family) who have fallen pregnant. One of them is very athletic but the other four are that bit rounder. I don't mean any offence to them. I know that they would be happy to be called curvy, so I'm not being rude about them. Two are a size 14-16 and the other two about a size 12. I don't mean this is big by any means whatsoever, but as an 8-10 (I always have been - I think I'm small boned!) I can't help but wonder if having a bit more weight might be helpful to TTC? I wouldn't imagine it would be helpful to start stuffing myself with junk food, but I know there's the old saying about 'child bearing hips' and wonder if there's actually any truth in it?

Yeah peekaboo, I know what you mean. I know they say that eating full fat ice cream and slurping full fat milk is supposed to help? And over-exercising isn't good. maybe us girls who struggle a little need to think about adding a bit more fat to our diets (good dairy fats) and exercising a little less? Am certainly taking that approach this month - am eating healthily (fruit and veg) but also including good fats, and am not going to the gym as much, am instead just biking to work and doing 'nice chilled' exercise outdoors. Who knows, maybe it'll work?

Spakle83, you are so right! I was at Tesco at lunch and in the space of 10 mins, I saw 4 families, all complete states, with a load of kids screaming around them. I'm not elitist - my family are working class through and through. I just mean the 'skanky' types who seem to breed like rabbits. And I love my cousins, but the ones who are most fertile seem to be the most messed up ones. Maybe I need to make my life more skanky. Right, I'm off to buy a shellsuit...

Ha ha, yeah I know what you mean!! Myself and hubby eat really well and dont eat junk food or have much caffeine. We're both what I would consider a normal weight within the right BMI. However, our only downfall is that we do drink alcohol - not in excess, but probably more than we should while TTC. I have read that women should stick to under 6 units a week while TTC and I definitely have more than that, so if we have no luck this month I'm definitely going to curb the drinking (I don't drink every nighr or anything, but usually a couple of nights a week, and probably have more like 12-15 units a week).

I definitely don't do 'too much' exercise! I just do light exercise twice a week, but thats all so that shouldnt be affecting anything.

Good luck to you all. x

TrixieLox, while you're there can ya get me 40 benson & hedges, some fake nails, some blonde clip in hair extensions, fake tan and 8 cans of strongbow? Ta :D

There are articles that suggest body shape has a lot to do with it ..
The old pear and apple comparison, apparently infertility is higher in apple shaped women.

God damn it I want to be pear shaped!

I hate being pear shaped! It is so damn hard to loose weight!!!!! I mean I am 5'3'' 125 lbs so not big but not super skinny but those last damn 10 pounds I can never get rid of and I heard it's cause pear shaped women have slower metabolisms. Oh btw I am still not pregnant either!!!!! sigh....

PCOS is also something to consider if you're having trouble losing weight. Well that's my excuse anyway!!
I kid, but in all seriousness, I have PCOS and my Gyno has told it affects weight. He said when I started Met I may be able to lose weight easier....Pffffftt....I've yet to see that though!!

Hey hun

My friend got told to gain weight in order to conceive after ttc for 12 months... an extra 14lb later and she got pregnant!

I'm currently losing weight to have IVF but the guideline for IVF treatment is a BMI of under 30.

Reckon so long as you are healthy, you eat well and exercise well it's all good - my mental health is a lot better than my physical health

I strongly believe in weight playing a big roll in getting that BFP... I have based my past 4 months on that theory, as since losing 33 pounds i have a 28 day cycle, i have stopped antidepressants and i can run on my treadmill without wanting to faint after 5minutes, my sex life has changed in like 360 degrees, and i feel great.. sleep beter too....

I am a typical pear shape lady, 5'7 and weighing in at 211 pounds, i still have a few more pounds to shed but i am closer to my original BFP weight than to what my actually body weight should be.. they say i should weigh 143 pounds.. they must be smoking POT, as i have a Big frame....:dohh::dohh:

I felt most comfortable and also size 8-10, but i am wearing a size 10 jeans today and they are sagging at my butt!!!!!!!:cry::cry:

:hugs:
