HI,

My little Alfie is poorly with colic. Is there anything I can watch out for when bf which might be causing colic?

He does get that little dimple in his cheeks when he feeds but never has a prob getting the milk. I always wind him after.

Am doing the usual Infocol before each feed. Have tried Dentinox but he screams the house down.

Cheers ladies x x x

I dont think his cheeks should be like trhat when feeding..

Fizzy drinks in your diet can be a cause

Hi Hun,
I don't know what position you are using to feed him in but when I was having similar problems my HV taught me to use a differant feeding position.
Sometimes when you feed babies in the traditional position their intake of air can be greater( especially if they are having probs latching on properly).
Try putting a pillow( bed sized) on whichever side you are feeding him from, double up on the pillows if you need to so that he is not too far away from your chest area. If you are feeding in bed or on the settee lay him so that his feet are facing towards the back , cup your arm under his back and cup his head in your hand, pull him towards you and let him latch on from underneath your nipple instead of straight on.
That way you can actually see if he is latching on properly and his intake of air will be greatly reduced, also it will speed up your flow of milk. I dont really think he should be getting dimples all through feeding..its usually a sign that he is trying too hard to get the milk so it may be that he is filling up on a lot of air. Sounds quite in depth and it does take a little practice but it worked a treat for me.
All that said, breastfed babies do tend to get more of a build up of wind than those that are bottlefed.
Good luck hun xxxxx

There definately shouldnt be dimples. His cheeks should be 'soft and rounded' - full rather than dimpled.
