Hi everyone,

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant (according to my early scan I am 28.5, so not sure what to go by). I was admitted to the hospital L&D on Tuesday night with preterm labor. I have having Braxton Hicks all that Tuesday, every 10/15 minutes and even though I have always had them frequently, that day was different and even more frequent. I drank lots of water, took warm baths and went to lay on my left side. After 3 hours of no change we went to the hospital. There I started having them every 7 minutes and then 2. At first my cervix was not dilated but thinned. They hooked me up to an IV for a couple of hours, but still no change. After that it was magnesium and pills to stop the contractions, forget the name. My cervix was almost a cm at that point. After 2 nights and 2 days of increasing my doses, I stopped contracting. They sent me home on Thursday evening because I have not dilated from that 1 cm. Friday I barely had any contractions, but starting Saturday I was having them every 15-30 minutes. I called the hospital and they told me to come in if I have them consistently every 10 minutes for an hour. Yesterday I had them regularly every 13/15 minutes for hours and then I took magnesium/calcium supplement, epsom salts bath and half a glass of wine (even though I was so strongly against any alcohol during pregnancy). They subsided to 25-1hour intervals. This morning I woke up and they were every 15 minutes and just now had one after 30 minutes. What I am I supposed to do? Is this normal? I am currently on bed rest and am terrified this baby will come way too soon. At this point I am hoping for 32/33 weeks, but I just don't think that's going to happen. Is it bad only when I have them 10 minutes apart as opposed to 15/20?

I'm sorry you are going through this. I had my first big bleed due to placental abruption at 29 weeks - that triggered lots of contractions and some were about 5-10 min apart. I was hospitalised and they managed to keep Ella inside of me until 33 weeks. Those weeks were tough but they made a huge difference. Good luck!

The medications didn't stop my contractions, though mine were brought on by a placental abruption. I had my boys at 29+0. I hope you went back to get checked out. I see you are in Illinois. I am in Northern Illinois. Hope you are doing well!

I am resting lots and the contractions are not as frequent anymore, thank goodness. They eased off after a couple of scary days. Now I get them every 45 minutes (or even 1-2 hours) on average and that's fine by me :) I am near Chicago! Aw I hope your little men are doing ok! :flower:

I just read your signiture ..I am so sorry about baby Noah. Jonathan seems like a strong little boy!!

I would keep an eye on them, and call your Doctor if you think they're coming too frequently. My first was born at 28.6 weeks after a few days of frequent "braxton hicks." My second was born at 35 weeks after only a few hours of frequent contractions.

Good luck, and I hope your baby stays put a while longer!

I have no idea what the answer is about contractions etc, but just wanted to say 29 weeks is still a really good gestation and you've got every reason to be hopeful of a good outcome. Our daughter was 29 weeks and although it was no walk in the park, she came through NNICU without any major hiccups.

I hope LO stays put for a long while yet, but please don't worry too much. xxx
