Yeah you're meant to take a wage slip in every week/month I believe and they adjust your award to suit the amount you've earnt :hugs:

I'm not trying to be funny or anything but I don't think they give you housing benefit to enable you to save some of your own earnings. If you had money spare to save, you shouldn't really need the benefit help!

im talking about getting things like clothing , not hoildays

They ask you to take in proof of earnings each time you are paid. It's a right pain but it means you are paid the correct amount rather than owing them money in the long run

I never take oh's payslips in,and it changes month to month (his pay) I asked my friend who works processing hb claims if I should take his payslips in and age told me no,and that they would write to me if they wanted to see them. Which they have done previously

This, I think it depends on the council. When my OH was self employed they wrote to see if they could see any proof of earnings. We took them in but the award never changed....Maybe they gave some kind of cut off limit?

Either way, there is a charging band for how much they charge depending on what you earn, It really isnt that much that you have to contribute towards the rent if the wages go up, it isnt taken pound for pound.

I think you can earn upto £90 before you pay anything - so 14hrs, and then they disregard £10 for a couple.

i know its shitty, but having to have rent paid with benefits wasnt ever supposed to be fun :(. With the current climate it is at the moment everyone is struggling, to find work is nearly impossible...Could your OH think about going full time (40+ on minimum wage) at another job?, You would still get a fair amount of rent covered because they would only deduct £30 a week from your HB (at our council anyway).

Do you not get working tax credits? or is that only for fulltime? i cant remember

ETA: Also, without being really shitty for the 2 of you and small children £100 a week to live on, plus your tax credits for your boys is a fair amount to have if your rent and council tax is being covered. Honestly if you budget accordingly its manageable, We do it and mange to run a small holding at the same time!, i know we don't get holidays or expensive products, but we do eat and live in a nice house....That's something we should be grateful for. If we want more, we need to find more hours and accept that we may have to pay a little more on the rent :flower:

It does indeed depend on the council; round here they say unless your earnings go up by quite a large margin or your hours change drastically, then you don't need to tell them, they only want to see your wage slips once a year as well but they do say they need to be a good average of your range of earnings. Last time we were on hb was only a few months ago so it can't have changed since xx

see everything in my house needs replacing, hes been looking for more wrk for a long time now

We got in loads of shit for this! OHgot a wage rise of £1 and when I submitted his wage slips, they said they had over paid us a lot, this was June and they went right back to beginning of the tax year and saw what he'd been paid and told us to pay it back. His pay changes most weeks, because sometimes he gets a bonus, depending on how much work he's done. But I had no idea you were supposed to tell them of any extra money, I just thought it was extra.

We now don't have any housing benefit, because they took his earnings up to that point, added them up and divided by the amount of weeks. Most weeks he doesn't get anywhere nears what they think he earns.

They average out your earnings so yes, you do need to tell them when your income increases, every time, otherwise you'll end up with an overpayment if they find out. They will randomnly request proof off earnings so I would be honest about it, they will go right back to when it first happened too so could be a big overpayment!

Any slight increase in wages you need to tell them about, even if you have 1 weeks wage which is higher than what they initially assessed you on :flower:

update, oh wrks pt, we get ctc i get incapacity ben and we nt entilited to any housing benfit , is this right ? weve to pay £77 rent £25 council tax, £35 gas n lecky, shoppings £100 a wk easy :/ ,car insurence etc we are left with nothing

Go onto Google and type in benefits calculator, this will tell you what your entitled too. That doesnt sound right to me at all.

well wot happened is .... he had to take 5pay slips in 4 were £131 but the last one was £296 cos he had covered for someone tht wk, 4wk later theyve let me know my HB been stopped due to earning to much :/ i explained it was a one off wk :/ and of course i didnt mind paying my rent, but they left it 4wk to tell me this, im now having to fill in a new claim form etc, payslips all over again, im owing rent for 4wk now and having to pay full till IF im entilited to anything at all :/ x

This is exactly what happened to us! They said to bring in the wage slips, only two weeks he had earnt a bug bonus of over £100! He hasnt had a bonus at all since then and that was in June. Its so hard isnt it!

its impossible ... when theyve stopped it altogether, but dint tell us till 11oct (made claim 7sep) so y dint they tell us b4 the 4wk backdate thingy
