is this true? :S (crawling vs non crawling)

Please don't worry... 6 months is very young to be crawling! I know personally of more babies that never crawled (only bum shuffled) than I do babies who crawled. My LO was quick to sit up (5 months) but only started bum shuffling at 12 months. She's now nearly 15 months and a week ago today started crawling. All babies are different... I think some people panic when (in their limited experience) they've always known babies to do certyain things by a certain age.

please tell him that having a grandchild who doesnt crawl makes you a fuckwit :headspin:

Hi hun, your Lo is still soo young. Omar started crawling at 9 months & many Los here started to crawl later between 10-12 months.

My brother went from cruising to walking at 10 months & he never crawled. He's not dyslexic & now at the age of 30 yrs he's a successful banker. xx

I'm sure I read somewhere that crawling isn't actually a vital developmental step anyway. Quite clearly many babies walk without first crawling so it's not like they have to crawl before their body will be capable of doing anything else!

I'd be interested to read this link between not crawling and dyslexia as I can't see how it could be related so I might learn something!

What a load of crap!!! My hubby didnt crawl he just got up and walked!

How can there be any sciewntific evidence to relate the two - what a load of poo!!!

Ur LO is six months yeah? He wouldnt be crawling yet anyway - average age is 8 months!!!

How rude! Dont worry hun, ur LO may not crawl at all, may just bum shuffle then walk, nothing wrong with that!

not read through the responses, so sorry if this has been said but ..

1) IMO your LO is young to be crawling anyways. My friends LO is a very clever little girl and she did not crawl untill 7.5 months.

2) My OH never crawld, or bum shuffled. ever. He went from sitting, to pulling himself to stand, to walking at 10 months and guess what? he's not dyslexic.

:dohh: :dohh:

Don't listen to him hun - I never crawled and I'm certainly not dyslexic. Also my daughter never crawled, but just bum shuffled and I have no concerns about her developmentally. However, like you said, if he does end up being dyslexic then there isn't a lot you can do about it anyway. My best friend is dyslexic and one of the most intelligent people I know - she graduated with 1st Class Honours so it has never held her back

Duncan Bannatyne, Richard Branson, Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci... never held any of them back either!

Exactly!

Sounds silly to me. Some babies just don't crawl and even those that do do it at vastly different times.

My sister never crawled and she's not dyslexic. She was far more academic than me I think.

awwww i HATE developmental worries - I am the proud mummy of the laziest baby on BnB (unless there is a challenger out ther ;-)

Sam - head holding - 9 months, sitting unsupported - 11 months, commando crawling 13 months. He took his first steps on Saturday with us holding his chest (not even hands lol) at 13.5 months. Fynn - total opposite lol.

They all get there and ditto the previous posters 6 months is very early Fynn was about 10 months before he crawled xxx

A vision disorder related to not crawling at 6 months which is not even considered a developmental milestone? What other sort of information does he pull out of his ass on a regular basis? I swear, some people just repeat ridiculous crap without even taking 30 seconds to think to themselves: "Does that even make sense?".

I didn't learn to crawl as a baby, I went straight to walking, and I don't have dyslexia.

Crawling isn't regarded as a necessary developmental milestone because it's dependant on how often a child gets to practise. Children who hate tummy time or who are always carried about everywhere will learn to crawl later than others (some never at all). You shouldn't worry about it or push your LO to do it if he doesn't like it. You can encourage LO to practise only when he's ready. Plus, any learning difficulties would affect other skills too, not just crawling xx

I didn't crawl, I was walking by 8/9 months and I'm far from dyslexic

At 6 months Lewis would also only roll from his tummy to his back, then just before 7 months he started trying to crawl. It took him till 9 months to finally get it.

So I really wouldn't worry hun.

Exactly ^^

I highly doubt my LO will crawl, he hasn't EVER attempted to even roll. The only time he lays down is to sleep, he wants to be held all day long :nope: Tummy time? Errr no chance!! :haha:

i dont know why they are asking you about ti at 6 months old, tell them that most babys dont crawl till 9-12 months of age my LO is turning 9 months soon and doesnt crawl, he gets up on all fours but doesnt even rock, instead he tries to stand so maybe he'll never crawl (apparently both me and hubby as babys went straight to walking so maybe its genetic!)

He's talking a lode of crap!

Just because your LO dosent like tummy time dosent mean he wont craw tho, my LO hates tummy time with a passion & he is on the verge of crawling. He's not quite there yet, ends up on his belly alot of the time & then will start crying but today we have progressed from to getting up on knees :) we just need some movement now.

When we went for his 8 month review the HV did ask if he was crawling & if i thought he would & i said no to both then. They did tell me not to worry about it as its not a developmental mile stone but if he hadnt crawled by age 3 years then he would be tought how to at nursary. Apparently studdies show that children that dont crawl struggle with climbing ladders & stuff like that as its the same action.

I heard that too, and I don't know if it's true or not... but six months is very early to be crawling. Madeleine used to hate being on her tummy when she was a baby, and then at around about 8 months, she suddenly showed more of an interest and started crawling! So even though he doesn't like being on his tummy, that doesn't mean he won't crawl.

My brother never crawled, he went straight to walking about about 14 months. He is very intelligent, he was a free reader at 3 years old, has a great job all that sort of thing.

I was crawling at 6 months and I'm dyslexic. So, what you've heard isn't true at all.. don't worry :flower:

My health visitor advised that crawling is important as it's a skill that utilises the left and right side of the brain. Now that I can believe. She didn't say anything about dyslexia.

Pffft. Well, if your little guy is dyslexic- "making" him crawl isn't going to stop it! Where is grandpa getting his logic? :dohh:

Proof positive already on the thread that there are plenty of people who didn't crawl and aren't dyslexic. :) And besides, 6 months is wayyyyyyy early! Carmen didn't crawl until 9 months or so.

what absolute horseshit! neither my brother or i crawled at all and im in mensa and he's doing a PhD at oxford! tell ur fil to shut up!
