A friend of a friend told me yesturday that I shouldnt 'bother' breastfeeding because its no different to formula after the first three days. She said that I should FF. All iv ever been told is that its the best thing for them and I should try to atleast BF till 6 months. She made me feel really stupid and told me I was wrong! Am I wrong?

your friend has been misinformed IMO!

Your "friend" is definitely misinformed.

Unicef has research available online that shows that exclusive BF for six months provides a wide range of health benefits to both mother and baby. The WHO actually recommend that BF continue for at least a year in order to get the best out of it.

Your friend is ABSOLUTELY WRONG! Formula milk is made from cow's milk - I assume you are producing human's milk!
Seriously, though, breastmilk is SO much better for babies, it changes and develops according to your baby's needs. It contains antibodies for viruses, infections etc that you have been in contact with, which means if there's a cold going round and you make antibodies you will give those to your baby, giving him/her some protection. Evidence proves that if you feed a baby with formula instead of the way nature intended you increase their risk of gastroenteritis, infections, asthma, eczema, allergies, and possibly even diabetes and obesity later in life. Obviously, there are no gurantees, but there is no guarantee that if you don't smoke you won't get heart disease or lung cancer, but it would be ridiculous to say that makes not smoking pointless!!
People unfortunately are not used to babies being breastfed - most women having babies these days were probably bottlefed and many have never seen a baby being breastfed, so they think 'it never did me any harm'. True, most formula fed babies will be fairly healthy, but if you want to breastfeed your baby and give him/her the best possible start then don't let other people's negativity put you off!

umm yah shes wrong .. BF is good if you can make it to 6 months and better if you make it further ..

BUT FF is just as good even though its based on cows milk and we are humans lol

There is nothing wrong with ff but it is better to breast feed for all the reasons people. I have 3 ff babies and my current lo is bf. I prefer bfing as it helps with a bond too. Your friend is talking cods whollop!!

Yes your friend is wrong, as the others have already stated. As long as you and your LO enjoy it, then don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
