My LO is 8 weeks old and I'm just wondering if it's too early to have her on a schedule? How often should I make her go between feeds and if she goes longer how do I get back on schedule or do I wake her to keep her on schedule? There are days where she will go 4 hrs or over... and there are some days she will only go 3 hrs. Should I try to do something with her to distract her till the 4 hr mark or what? I'm a new mum so I need all the help I can get.

Hi hun, At 8 weeks old, I would feed on demand. But if he/she tends to go much longer than 4 hours, I would be tempted to wake her up.

Harrison is nearly 8months and apart from when he was newborn we have been very baby led about when he feeds. Personally i dont think its fair to wait them wait for a feed. Harrison generally goes about 3 hours between bottles and food even now. xx

Omar was going for 4 hours between feeds at 8 weeks. He never cried for feeds, so it was easy to feed on schedule.

ETA: I never woke him up for feeds, at night he was going for 6-8 hrs without feeds, & if he's napping & it's time for a feed, I used to wait until he wakes up. xx

i read the baby whisperer book when my lo was newborn and i tended to go by that, now he has his own routine which he sets himself

My little girl is almost 3 weeks and riughly feeding every 4 hours but like you sometimes goes under sometimes over. She is having 120ml most of the time which I worry is too much. She can leave anything from 30 ml downwards. She tends not to go to sleep now after the lunch time feed and stays awake all afternoon. Im really trying to get her to sleep better at nigh too

weve always fed alfie when he wants it so basically when he shows signs of hunger nibbling on hand crying ect we feed him on demand i wouldnt like to wait for my dinner so i dont see why he should have to lol..he does generally go 2-3 hours and 4-5 hours at night your lo will get herself into abit of a routine hun so dont worry about it..but if she tends to go more near the 4 hour mark anyway i think thats pretty good to be honest.

i feed bella on demand & she generally goes 3 hours.
xx

We always fed Jayden as and when he was hungry, whether it be 2, 3 or 4 hours, even now at 5 months he has milk when he wants but he has only just got himself into some pattern xx

My LO goes 4 hours between bottles but will sometimes only go 3. If he starts getting grumpy before the 4 hours i will give him one

I still feed on demand. He generally goes 2-3 hours between eating.

I feed completely on demand usually every 3ish hours during the day now that she sleeps through the night.

I dont agree with waking a baby to feed them, if they are hungry they will wake and let u know. Even as a newborn Elleah used to go sometimes 5-6 hours without a feed if she was sleeping x

Jasmine has always pretty much been on 3-4 hour schedule which she set herself, its not rigid and I always follow her signs but it seems to be pretty regular.

I feed on demand. I think baby's make their own routines up lol. After all the babys not read the book

i feed on demand too the health visitor said this was the best way as she will tell me when shes hungry rather than have it forced on her - babies vary their feeds too sometimes Ava only wants 2oz if she fed say an hour and a half ago, and others she wants 4oz if shes had a 3 -4 hour nap x

I fed on demand for the first 12 weeks or so, then LO set his own schedule from about 12 weeks and fed about every 3 hours. Now at 10 months he is on a set schedule as I have found that is what works best for him. He gets really upset if he has to cry for food. X

I find now at 11 weeks that Elleah has set ur own schedule and feeds pretty much at the same times everyday. x

We fed Ruby every 3 hours in the day and when she got to 3 months every 4 hours in the day. We couldn't demand feed as she never demanded. With a baby with clear hunger cues I'd just demand feed and certainly I'd never 'make' a baby go longer between feeds.

Hi,
My LO is 9 weeks now and Ive been wondering about this too so this post is great. Thanks! I'm feeding on demand so it's reassuring to see you are all doing this too. Leo tends to feed every 3-4 hours but I dont wake him if he is sleeping. I'm just letting him tell me what he wants at the moment.
