Hi all, was just wondering what people's thoughts are on isofix bases for the car seat? I am swapping cars with dh as his car is a lot bigger, however it doesn't have isofix. I believe it can be fitted for about £100 so I can then use an isofix base.
Do you think it's worth it? Is using an isofix safer than using the seat belt method?

Thanks :)

I've got an isofix base in my car as its a 3 door and makes it so much easier. My oH doesn't (very cheeky of ford as its a free optional extra but you had to ask for it!!!). We have tried the car seat out in OH's car (maxi cosi pebble) with the seatbelts and that car seat ain't going anywhere, its very secure.
You can actually order the isofix points yourself and fit them, just google it for info. Your paying the £100 for the fitting really. We aren't gonna bother though now.

We do but mostly for ease as we have a 3 door and it would be a nightmare for my oh to clamber in the backseat (he's 6"3') to fit the seat belt. plus it just makes me feel safer as the lights indicate if the seat has been fitted correctly. we dont actually have our car seat yet but have tried the base with one of the shop ones.

We have two fords, and like yourself they only fitted one with isofix! As I will have the 5 door car I should be ok for accessibility, but if the isofix was more secure then I wouldn't hesitate to get it fitted. I have just got my car seat, also the pebble, so I should probably take it out and try it and see how I feel.
I agree with the light system thing, it would give me piece of mind.

:)

I have a silvercross carseat and the isofix bases are considered safer than seat belts.

We fitted the car seat in the car with the seat belt and it was an absolute nightmare, I just thought of us trying to do that in the piddling rain or something and i said "we're getting an isofix base!"

We fitted it today, in my 2010 fiesta and the only thing is the passenger seat has to sit very far forward to accommodate it really. But rather that than messing about as the seat belt in the back just isn't long enough to fit the carseat without hastle.

i got the maxi cosi family fix as it was on offer in mothercare (got it for £110) and can be used for the next seat up so shouldnt have to get a new one until she is a few years old.

We had an isofix base with our 1st, saved so much time and hassle getting LO in and out of the car. We actually ended up with two bases, one for each car. The Maxi Cosi Easyfix (which can be fastened using isofix OR seatbelt) and a familyfix base. We are getting another Easyfix base for this baby, we cant fit the seat in hubbys new car so only need the one this time.

It was by the far the my best baby product. it meant quick trip to the shops...were quick. no faffing with seat belts, it safer and amazing when raining or cold.

a deff must in my view.
