I encountered my first real negative response to breastfeeding the other day and I am still fuming about it.

I went out for my Birthday with a few of my friends (one of which hasn't even bothered to come and see Lucas) we started to talk about breastfeeding and I said about how I originally wanted to do 3 months but will now hopefully carry on until 6 months.

Well she actually looked disgusted !!! Started to say how clingy he would be, mummys boy etc and wait for it, that he would be gay when he is older

I was literally speechless ! Firstly it wouldn't matter to me if he was gay or not but I really didn't like the message she was trying to put across at all, whether he was clingy or whatever what the hell has that got to do with breastfeeding. It was blatantly obvious to me she did not like the idea of bf but I was so shocked as I have never had anyone openly make negative comments about it !!!

Has anyone else experienced this ? I have got more and more pissed off since I saw her

At 6 months he is still a baby for heavens sake anyway! My son is 4 and extremely clingy and he was only breastfed for 3 weeks so bang goes her 1st theory! Boys are mummys boys anyway and I wouldn't have it any other way!

That is the most bizarre thing I've ever heard! People can be odd, my sister told me that if I continued breastfeeding once Aisling had teeth, I'd be making a rod for my own back - have absolutely no idea what she meant by that!

my Holly is nearly 14 months and i will b/f until we both ready to stop!! people (even some i met at b/f group) say that i should of stopped and it not right to have a older baby on my boob. at first i was worrying myself stupid and tried to get her on a bottle, but she hates formula and then i thought its my child and it actually the most natural thing... i am not against formula but think that i do not need comments however indirect about b/f my 13 months old. and as for her being clingy... my Holly is a daddy's girl and always wants him if not ill or wanting booby. and she has never been near his moobs.

I went to a pamper party this week and there was a girl there I've never met before. She started telling the tale about a woman she knew blah blah and how this woman BF her child till it was 2 and how it was too old yadda yadda....

It pissed me off but I kept quiet. a mutual friend there who knew I BF looked at me and said '2 IS a bit too old really isnt it?' to which I shrugged and said 'It's not really anyone's business but theirs - it doesnt affect anyone else does it.....' The conversation continued and I then told this other woman 'Well I am still BFing and .....yadda yadda...'
The woman was but I thought I dont give a shit - you made me feel awkward so tough. I just thought why would you say something like that in a room with people you dont know?

I wish I had said something now, I think I was just in shock really as I had never really had any negative comments before. If anything im used to getting praise for it so I was pretty stunned to hear her say that.

Next time I see her im going to bring it up in conversation then im going to tell her what i think !!!
