Hello wonderful ladies

Im wondering whether any uk ladies are undergoing iui on the Nhs or at st helier?

I'm currently undergoing tests and have been perusing the st helier hospital website. My fs has told me in not eligible for any Nhs funding due to where I live so I will have to pay for everything myself. I'm posting as I would like to see if any of you ladies could offer some insight into the iui procedure, especially if you went for self funding at st helier.

On the website it shows costing for self funded iui (and other treatment) but refers to bridge fertility clinic at London bridge. I see that self funded ivf is carried out at st helier for the scans, egg collection but then embryo transfer is done at bridge. What about iui? It's ages until I see the fs again to ask these questions so here I am. I'd prefer going to bridge as its closer to work and I can't afford to take leave for the scans at st helier.

Also, how many scans do you typically go for? Are the clinics open at the weekends?

Thanks for any info/advice ladies.

Hi.

I'm not able to help with the two locations you have mentioned but I just wanted to let you know how many scans I've had etc each time.

I'm currently in my TWW after my 2nd IUI. Both times I've been for a scan around day 11 of my cycle then another one a few days later. For me, both times after the 2nd scan I've then had the trigger shot and had IUI the next day.

I see someone for the scan, she fills in the paperwork with the follicle size etc, tells me if I need to have another scan or if I'm ready for IUI then I see the nurse. I haven't had to wait for the nurse both times, I'm straight in to see her. She talks through things more and then books my time for my next scan or books in my IUI time.

The hospital I'm at isn't open at weekends but with self-funding it might be different. The first time I had IUI it was a Friday. This time we thought we would miss out because of the Bank Holiday weekend but my body did well and my body wasn't ready for IUI until after which was great!

Thanks Lou! Best of luck this cycle. Come on bfp!!!!!

Oh one more question- how many days before ovulation do they tend to do the iui?

Thank you!

Both times for me they have given me a trigger injection when my follicles are big enough. This means I'll ovulate with the next 24-48 hours I think so they do the IUI the following day. I always get my smiley face on my ovulation test the next morning.

Both times I've had the injection late morning. I had the first IUI late morning and my IUI this time was at 3pm.

Thanks Lou. How many scans do you go for overall?

Both times I've had 2 scans before going in before IUI.

Hope this is it for you Lou! Go get that bfp!

Hi mk8.

Is it Epsom St Helier hospital you are referring to?

If so I am surprised you have been told no NHS funding for IUI.

We are being seen at Queen Mary, Roehampton but live in the Epsom area and the ACU there have said Surrey is the best pct as one of the only ones to offer both IUI and IVF on NHS.

Maybe worth a few phone calls to see if you can get NHS funding at another hospital.

Good luck xx

Hi snowy bird, thanks for your message. I am indeed referring to Epsom st helier. Unfortunately, my pct (Sutton) doesn't offer ivf or iui on the Nhs.

I can get self funding only I think. The wait takes forever! Hope you're getting closer to your bfp... Are u doing ivf or iui? Or something else?

Its shocking how much each pct varies - the postcode lottery seems completely unfair :(

The waiting game is so painful isn't it? Seems like wait months for an appointment only to then get one step closer and 2 back - argh!

On hopefully days, I feel like we are getting closer but know its not going to be in 2012, fingers crossed for 2013!

We have just been accepted into the assisted conception unit and hopefully after our next appointment (June) we will be referred onto the NHS IVF / IUI waiting list. Hubby is azoospermic following chemo several years ago, fortunately with pre-banked sperm but does mean either IVF / IUI to conceive - each person we see, seems to have a different opinion on whether it will be IVF or IUI.... but latest thought is IVF.

Have you managed to find out much more about the IUI process and if you can go to London Bridge? I hope you can get an appointment soon and start the next stage of the journey towards your BFP :)

Lou - how is your 2ww going? Fingers crossed for a BFP.

Hi snowbird, wow, what a journey you and hubby have been on. Best of luck with the next step. Would be good to get an update if you have time. If not, don't worry, all the best and I wish you first time success!

I haven't found out any more re iui at bridge. I still need to do all my tests (day 21 bloods and hsg left) before I can go back to the fs to discuss. After that we will then be able to find out what the next part of the process will be. I was told that I'm not eligible for self funding so hubby n I are saving just in case and trying to understand how things work. Unfortunately the hsg wait is long (don't have a date, just need to call the hospital on day 1 of af to see if they have an appt.). My follow up fs appointment to discuss results is in dec!!! But this was booked "to get me on the system" and I can ring to bring it forward after all tests are complete.

Lou- hope you're doing ok!

I am glad to see the Dec appointment is just to get you on the system, otherwise that is a crazy wait!

Are your cycles regular enough to be able to book HSG for following cycle if can't get an appointment this time?

xx

My cycles vary from 26-29 days, which makes a diff as I need to book it when I'm not bleeding and in days 1-10. Ah well.

How are you today?

Oh no what a pain.

All well with me today - currently in a positive frame of mind, so fingers crossed it stays, although with AF on its way this weekend / early next week that could all change!

How are you?

Out of interest, with a 26-29 day cycle, which day have you been recommended to have D21 blood test? I am on a 26-28 day cycle and had my D21 test again yesterday as found out a couple of weeks ago that the one done back in Jan was below normal level, but was told not to worry as that was done on D22 (due to D21 falling on weekend) which could have been too late for my cycle.

hi snowy, the doc just told me to do it on cd21. if it fell on a weekend, to go AFTER and not before. that was their strict intruction. i had my progesterone tested on cd22 last year too and my prog level was under normal but considered ovulation (26nmol/l). i ovulated on day 17/18 that cycle. this time, i got a positive opk on cd15 so ccd22 is 7 days post o so it could work out. will see.
