I am having an IUI (again!) this month just to pass the time while we move to a better hospital (the one we are with is cr*p basically) and they don't offer medication with the procedure.... However, I would like to self medicate in the hope of increasing my usual 2 follicles to maybe 4 to give us a better chance. I have a stack load of Puregon/Gonal F/Menopur/Pregnyl in the fridge and enough needles to form a small mountain so thats not a problem - now the difficult part:-

The hospital are having a refit and therefore they cannot offer me an ultrasound before the day of the procedure (typical) which will mean that the day of the actual IUI will be the first and only U/S (i am presuming that i will get one then???) so i won't know at what stage the follicles are at BUT after several failed IVF/FET/IUI procedures, i am willing to try anything right now! :haha:

I think im going to call the hospital and make sure this is ok because i dont want to get there and them say "we dont carry out the procedure if you have more than 2 follicles..." la la la)

So.... I just wondered what meds & doseage you took before your IUI, i see most people were on around 75-100 IU.

What are your opinions? I was going to just do another natural cycle, i ovulate on my own but i would prefer to try something different. I guess I will have to trigger if i'm self medicating? :hugs:

This is hard to answer because everyone's body responds so differently. I respond to 75iu's of Follistim for 3 days whereas another person on here has to take 300iu's twice as long. I would say to use your normal "protocol" that the doctor initially gave you just to be safe. Just keep in mind that you can use the same amount of medication every month and end up with different results every time. For example, one month I produced 7follicles, then another time (with the exact same dosing as that month) I produced 4 follicles. That's a huge difference but I did nothing different between those 2 months. Good luck and hope you get your BFP soon. Just be VERY careful to not over medicate. Last month I ended up with a HUGE cyst on my ovary due to hyper stimulation ... I was in danger of losing my ovary. Very scary. I am still waiting for it to go away and it's almost been 1 month.

Thanks for replying!

Hmmm yeah i know, im not so sure about it now. Would have been better if i could have been scanned a couple of times but its a bit blind this time. I have been through 3.5 IVF's, 3 FET's and an IUI and all the protocols (for the IVF) have been different and also with different meds as well and im scared that if i take the same doses then i will end up with something like 11 follicles (as always) and the hospital will go mad! :haha: I was thinking of taking 75 IU and then i saw someone take 100 IU and god, i dont know... I suppose its best to speak to the hospital tomorrow and see what they say.

Good luck with your IUI as well and i hope you get a nice juicy BFP! :happydance:
