I may be getting ahead of myself here but we're going back to see our FS in a few weeks and I would like to be prepared. I have a feeling we will have to go down the treatment route after TTC for 18 months (and all tests fine). I just wondered if anyone who had tried IUI could tell me whether this is likely to be something the FS recommends? Also, if they do think it is an option is there usually a long waiting list for it on the NHS? If the FS recommends that we just keep trying would it be an option to say we want to pay for it or would they still refuse if they don't think we're ready?

Sorry for all the questions. x

I would like to know this too, only my appointment is tomoz and my OH has low SA results well they been ok one test and low this test, i wanna get all my information ahead so i know where to start!!

I mean is clomid an option if OH has low sperm?

I really wouldnt of thought the waiting list was that long as your pretty much in and out within a few mintues however i have no idea huni, i think its worth asking the questions tho when you go, i mean if there is a list surley after 18months of ttc they can put you on the list :()

Good luck huni xxxxx

Thanks beauty. I think clomid is given to regulate OV in people that don't OV regularly (although I'm not 100%) so not sure whether or not it would be an option in cases where male has low sperm. Don't take my word for that though as I'm only going on what I've read on here in passing. Good luck for tomorrow - have you got a list of Qs?

Does anyone else know much about the IUI waiting/ referral? x

I have and havent got list of questions, only OH first test was just below average and the second test well we havent had numbers but i do think due to him being ill and him doing the test on day2 this has resulted in lower results!!

Therefore i am hoping she is gonna give me some clomid cause surley if my cycles are irregular due to pcos and not ovulating surley clomid would help give us better chances of ttc knowing when we are more fertile..

Thanks huni for your help
xxxx

Yeah definitely, it sounds like clomid would be a good step if your cycles are irregular. Wishing you lots of luck! x

Wish for loads of luck huni too xxxxx

Hi Peekaboo,
I think you had your first FS appointment the same time as me, we have our follow up in about two weeks. I just wanted to wish you luck!
Im not really sure what they will suggest if all your tests have come back fine, but I would guess it would be IUI. Did she/he give you any options when you had your 1st appointment? x

Hi obe, to be honest I didn't find her very helpful at the first appointment and my DH felt the same. She didn't really go through options at that stage, but just ran through possible tests (she mentioned the laparoscopy test but said unless there was an indication of endo she didn't think we'd need to do it) and kind of mentioned about when there's no cause for the problem people often end up going for IVF. I hope she mentions other options this time. I'm definitely going to tell her my concerns about lack of EWCM this time. Unfortunately I don't think theres a magic pill they can give to help create it, but I think they can give robitussin (or something like that) in pill form. Its the same stuff that's in expectorant cough medicine to loosen bodily fluids and apparently it can be prescribed in pill form, but not sure whether thats something that FS's are concerned with or whether they would just dismiss that.

I've read a lot about IUI though and apparently its a good thing to try in cases where everything is fine other than lack of fertile cervical fluid, so I'm kind of pinning my hopes on that. I just wanted to find out the procedure about referral for it and whether you can actually request it if you're paying. Does anyone know???

obe, would be really interested to know how your follow up goes - will you keep us posted? Good luck. x

Well I hope she can give you some positive feed back and advice this time round Peekaboo. Did she send you away to do more tests before you go back for your follow up? I really hope you come out of this appointment with some answers!
We know that we will have to go for ICSI so im keeping my fingers crossed that we get a step closer, but we will see what she says.
I will keep you posted, let us know how you get on xx

Well the first time we went was for the initial consultation. The only test we'd had at that stage was SA. The FS sent us for transvaginal ultrasound and also for HSG. We haven't been back since so this next one is to discuss results and see what happens next I guess. I know the HSG was ok though as they told me on the day, and I'm hoping the ultrasound will have been ok too. x

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have been TTC #1 for 16 months, and all tests have come out fine. I did one cycle of Clomid with no luck. Next cycle, we are trying Clomid with IUI. I hope it works. Can anyone explain ICSI to me? is that different from IUI and IVF?

Thanks,

Mary

Hey peekaboo i'm just in front of you, i had a laparoscopy (may 09) instead of transvaginal scan. My follow up appointment was in sept. Due to unexplained fertility the fs said our only other options were to move forward with iui and ivf. We have been placed on both lists. Our wait for iui is 6 months on nhs and are allowed up to 4 attempts. We weren't told much else other than that. We have been ttc for 29 months

Hi hun,
ICSI is when they inject a single sperm directly into the egg, where as with IVF, the sperm is put together with the egg, fertilising the egg itself. ICSI is used due to low sperm counts/motility.

Hope we all have some luck soon and have a BFP before xmas!!!! :hugs:

Hi, we've just recieved our first appointment with our chosen IUI clinic.

Our PCT will only consdier referrals for assisted treatment after 2 years of TTC.

Our FS completed the referral in August, we recieved confirmation that 3 IUI cycles will be funded and we given a choice of 3 clinics. We choose our clinic in September and we have just recieved our intitial consultation appointment with our IUI clinic for the end of this month. The PCT require all 3 cycles of IUI to be completed within a set time so hopefully we will start the process in the new year if not before.

I had a lap in January this year - all ok, my PCT will only consdier funding for treatment on the NHS after this had been done. We have unexplained infertility and as everything ok they suggested IUI as the next step.

We were told there was no waiting list but our choosen clinic has very good results and therefore we have had to wait a little longer to start - hopefully it will be worth it.

Good luck with your journeys xx

Thanks for the IUI info MissMonty & cazhd. I suppose its silly me trying to find out too much before the FS appointment but just can't help wondering. I really hope they can do something as I'm finding it harder and harder seeing people all around me getting pregnant and having their babies while I'm still in limbo.

Wishing you all the best of luck for BFPs very soon. x

Have they not tried Clomid with you for few months before referring you to FS??
I know all tests are normal but maybe trying the clomid while you maybe wait on the IUI waiting list is worth a mention, no harm in trying i suppose while you wait..
xx

No, we haven't tried anything. The referral to FS was first step - I thought it would be FS who would refer clomid or anything anyway? I'm guessing they were waiting to see what our tests said. I can't wait to go back and find out what she says, the wait is a nightmare!

Well when i went my appointment yesterday I see a gyno and she given me 3 months worth of clomid, if dont ovulate as per day 21 tests need to ring and maybe up dosage, however she said after them 3 months i go back and prob be referred to F.S

Assuming F.S are more detailed than a gyno with fertility problems?
I just thought maybe you cud ask F,S to try the clomid if they put you on a waiting list for IUI, least then it makes you feel like your trying something while your waiting!
xx
