Hi Ladies
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a clinic for ivf? I am in northern ireland and we are limited so I am willing to travel but just looking for a bit of direction. Have decided to have laparoscopy in oct to hopefully clear out tubes etc then try until xmas and go for ivf in new year. I will be self funded cuz I am ancient-40! Getting excited, nervous bloody petrified!!
thanks ladies x

Hi glitterqueen,

As you know we're also from N.I and travelling to England for IVF. My advice would just be to research some clinics, find out what's what via word of mouth, listen to other people's experiences, check fee schedules, success rates etc.

Then see if it is handy to travel to the clinic from N.I, ie are there direct flights out of Belfast City, can you fly in and out on the same day if need be (this is why we picked Manchester)

We are going to Care Fertility in Manchester, but Care have clinics in various locations in England.

Good luck with your lap and keep an eye out for me and I'll let you know if Care is any good!

Mrs R
thanks so much for the support-I looked at manchester it looks really good my FS told me to ask these questions at each clinic-what are the specific success rates for live births for my specific age using my own eggs
don't know if it helps you but he said stats can be made to look good for anywhere but i think he was also miffed when i told him i wouldn't be goijg to Origin like he recommended and I had heard the Royal weren't very good!
Who is your FS if you dont mind me asking?
I am so excited for you and sending you loads of babydust! I have decided to try til xmas then ivf in new year-we could even bump into each other there-hopefully with big large pregger bellies!!!!
Good luck i will jeep an eye out for your posts xx:hugs:

Hi there,

Hope you don't mind me asking and please don't feel you have to answer. I'm just wondering why you decided against Origin? I'm attending Origin for ICSI. I know girls on site that thought it was great and so far I do too. Just worried you've heard something I don't know XXX

Hi jojoD,

Just thought I's add my 2p's worth....... we have decided against Origin due to numerous things.

Origins success rates are lower than the clinic we have chosen, they are £1000 more expensive for a basic IVF cycle, £350 more expensive for an initial consultation and the big decider for us is that we were told last week that it will be at least 5 months before we can be treated in Origin, possibly up to 8 months.

We are being seen in Care Fertility after 4 weeks and there is no waiting list for treatment. I haven't heard anything bad about Origin at all, just isn't for us at this time x

Glitterqueen, thanks for the baby-dust, I need it!! I'm under Prof. McClure in the Royal. Have no problem with him, just with the waiting lists (which he acknowledged are abysmal!)

Thanks for the info. It's good to know all these things!!! I hadn't thought of going to England until now. Was silly I suppose and assumed it was same price everywhere and was just desperate to get referred somewhere else other than the royal. Next visit is on Thursday, hope treatment isn't delayed any further. If it is I'll be on the next flight with you!!!

Watched a programme on one of the sky channels called 'Test tube babies' that followed couples with the CARE clinics. They seemed to get a great standard of care with lots of BFPs!! Good luck xxx

Hi guys

I'm about to start our one and only funded cycle at the RFC ... and I'm not looking forward to going to the Royal. Having been to Origin twice, I can say that they are lovely - the clinic is nice, the staff are great, etc, etc - but I refuse to pay a non-refundable deposit of £500 to be placed on the waiting list. If the Royal doesn't work for us, we'll have to decide whether to go for our self funded treatment at the Royal or go to Care. Not sure yet, havent' really thought about it too much. I guess I'm hoping that it'll be third time lucky for us...

Good luck where ever you go to ...

Hi Mrs R

to all the ladies going for ivf soon loads of baby dust and good luck to all of you xxxxxx

Hi all
I am just waiting for my first consultation with Manchester fertility services. I don't know if they are as good as care but I will let u know. My friend had her sterilisation reversed by one of their consultants after others refused and she caught first mo th and now has a little go so I thought id give them a go. Good luck everyone x

Ladies just thought I would let you and anyone considering Origin that the waiting list is shorter than expected!!! Good news for us gals in NI!!! They had estimated a waiting time of three to six months for treatment following referral but things are moving quicker and it's only around three months!!!

They received my referral after the July holiday. Our pre consultation appointment was September 3rd. Consultation was Thurs 8th October and our ICSI will be December or January!!!!! Staff were really fabulous too!!! Can't wait, seems a little baby for us in 2010 is now possible!!!
