IVF cycle - Cancelled - very sad

So, they overstimulated me. Went in for my ultrasound today, and we had to cancel the cycle. The protocol was too agressive for me, and I responded too well to the drugs.

I actually had a reasonable number of follicles for this stage, but my left ovary was hogging all the meds and had already managed to produce 4 follicles just ready to ovulate. Dr. said that they will likely spontaneously ovulate well before the other follicles are ready to be retrieved. If we wait, I'll either ruin the entire cycle, or overstimulate.

So, they gave me the trigger shot and converted to an IUI. They expect 4 follicles to ovulate. So I guess that's something.

I'm just really disappointed. I was feeling so hopeful.

So sorry to hear that you got cancelled on...cancelled cycles are so incredibly devestating. We were almost cancelled on a stim cycle (opposite reason to you though) and we had a FET cancelled and it is just awful.

You spend months preparing and doing shots, scans and bloods and when they tell you they can't go ahead it feels like you went through it all for nothing.

I'm pleased that they can do IUI so that you can at least have a crack at something.

Unfortunatley the first (assuming this is your first) IVF cycle is a bit of a test run to see how you respond. It was once described to me as baking a cake - they need to have all the ingredients spot on in order for everything to go ahead and sometimes they need a few practise runs to get it right...not that it makes it any easier for us patients.

As the day goes on I'm feeling better. It is my first IVF cycle. And I was quite excited about it. But when I got my E2 level back yesterday, I knew there was a problem.

But you are right, the cycle is not completely wasted, and I have 4 follicles that might ovulate. So maybe, this time, one of them will stick. Its also my first cycle with any sort of injectible drugs. I went straight to IVF after non-medicated IUI's didn't work. (b/c of age).

Hopefully I'll be in a better frame of mind when I go in for the IUI tomorrow.

Oh no ... I can only imagine how difficult you must be finding things right now - although there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You never know - your IUI cycle might work this month. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope you are posting your in a few weeks ...

Sorry the IVF got cancelled but I hope the IUI works for you. As you've had the trigger shot you will definitely ovulate (well thats what I was told anyway) and 4 is a good number. Got my fingers crossed for you
