Hey,

i should ask my FS at my next appointment but as many of you on here have been through it you will be able to help me out:), i am just really curious about how long it takes from start to finish for IVF treatment?

starting with the injections to stimulate ovulation? to implanting the embryo??

thanks:flower:

Hi madam,

I'm about to start IVF cycle 1 next week so I can answer this one!

The short answer is around 2 months - once you've done all the paperwork and met with your IVF doc.

In month 1 you do what's called a down regulation cycle. During that month you have to take the pill for a couple of weeks and use a nasal spray. The objective is to NOT ovulate that month so the eggs are saved up for the retrival.

In month 2 you are using different drugs and trying to stimulate the ovaries to produce extra eggs. You'll be monitored every couple of days during this cycle to see how your follies are getting on. Then around the end of the month they'll retrieve all the eggs (usually under general anaesthetic.) Depending on the kind of IVF you're doing I think it may vary a bit here. I'm doing ISCI so in my case, they'll inject sperm into the eggs straight away that day. We wait 3 days then transfer them back - which is a relatively simple procedure, no anaesthetic needed.

The only other thing I'll add is that depending on where you live, there can be an awful lot of paperwork, which can take ages. I live in Melbourne Australia and we have to do police checks and child protection checks and ALL sorts. So I reckon it's probably closer to 3 months for me, one you factor in all that.

Good luck :flower:

hey MrsJA:)

thanks for the reply. this sounds complicated, i thought it would be a lot longer than that...the procedure/timeframe might be abit different here in the UK compared to Australia.

hubby had SA done a few months back (not good results) and we have had blood tests done now waiting on results...

good luck with your treatment, i will keep you posted on how things go for me.

xx

Hey there

If you are doing a short protocol (antagonist), its all over in a month!

I've done one of each now, and agree that the long protocol is about 2 months, but mine was probably 10 days longer than that...

It changes depending on how your body responds to the stims.

Thanks for the reply:)

I am from Leicester UK. i would love to hear from someone around here regarding this procedure....

MrsJA and Anabanana you have provided me with good info and i will be asking a lot of questions during my next Gyne appointment....

I don't know if this helps but I had my first appointment with the assisted unit last week after being reffered by the FS. We have an appointment with the FS nurses on 17th June to learn how to inject then we take it from there. Our FS also said that they are limited with the number of cases they can do each month. I'm assuming we will actually start everything about June/July

ive just had my first cycle of ivf i started on synarel nasal spray on the 8th march then had a scan on the 31st for lining but mine was 2 thick so i had 2 sniff a few more days or i could of started injections 1st april,i had another scan on 6th april lining was fine so injections started 7th april, had another scan on the 14th april looking for follicles then phone next day for next scan, had last scan 16th april check follicles give time for last sniff last injection and hcg trigger shot, then i had ec on 19th april then u start pessaries for 14 nights, 22nd april i had 3 day transfer of 2 embryos 8cell and 7cell, blood pregnancy test should be the 3rd but its bank holiday so its 4th may, hope this helps x

I was on BC for the month previous to IVF. About 2 weeks before I had my baseline scan (when I started my period for the month of IVF), I started DR. I stimmed for 10 days while having multiple sonograms and blood tests. About 2 weeks into my cycle I had egg collection. I am currently getting ready for egg transfer (3-4 days after EC). I will wait until May 9th (2 more weeks after EC) to test. All in all... about 2 months!

Good Luck!

Hi
I'm just starting out at the CRM in Coventry, which is kind of near you lol
We have had 2 appointments so far - 1 in March at which we did FSH blood tests. DH had already had SA done prior to that appointment. Yesterday was 2nd appt - we got the results of FSH and are going to be proceeding with IVF. For some reason, I'm not having any other tests done?? We are just going straight into the treatment - I don't know if this is standard
We've got to go back in May for an Information Sessions - at this we meet with a nurse who'll go into detail about the various stages of treatment. Then we'll be starting treatment the next cycle.
Once the treatment starts, it's just like Mrs JA and Anabanana said - depending on the protocol, the actual treatment from down regging to embryo transfer takes a couple of months.
The Dr I saw yesterday did say that the CRM doesn't have a waiting time. It can depend on the couple - some people want to wait a few months before starting treatment and some people want to go for it right away. This might be different in Leicester.

Good luck for your appt
xx

Aww thanks so much hun:)

When we went for our first appointment we were told that Hubby's sperm were so bad that it would be near enough impossible to concieve naturally (SA results showed he has very few normal sperm) i had 21 bloods done prior to that and everything is fine, however FS did state that i have mild PCOS (had cysts on overies when i was 17, periods are very regular since being married, hormones-funny eh?) but that wouldn't affect me concieving naturally...

Well, anyway, i had bloods done for HIV etc and for 2-3 day of my cycle, hubby had a genetics blood done and 6 others!!!, hmm...wonder why you haven't had other bloods done?? i guess they found the FSH and SA results were sufficient enough to go ahead with the treatment. My FS did say that at the next appointment we will look through the results and get the ball rolling for IVF.

I really hope everything goes well for you too:)

Keep in touch, i will too let you know how we get on:)

sending lots of babydust your way:)
