IVF ER and ET chances of being as scheduled?

We are going to be going through our first IVF next month and I have been given my calendar. I am wondering what the likelihood is that the dates will stand? I have shared my infertility struggles with several coworkers but I don't want to have to miss work and have everyone at work know what is going on. I know I don't have to say but I don't have a good poker face and I am a terrible liar. I am nurse so we work shifts and I am scheduled to be off on the planned dates but if the plan doesn't work out it will mean not only will I miss time but that I would have to work very quickly after either ER or ET. I know that the time recommended off is minimal but it would be so nice to be able to have a week off and be a bum after going through this. Those of you that have gone through this, do I have a chance of having it all work out as planned? Or is that idea totally laughable?

Hi there,

In my case, EC was scheduled for 14th Feb, but they had to bring it forward to the 11th of Feb cause they were worried about me getting OHSS. It was a bit of a pain for work as I was fully booked that day & had to fork out to get a locum in to cover my patients!

I think they can give you an idea of when it will be, but it's not 100%, if you respond too well they might bring it forward, or if you respond too slow they might need to up the dose of meds & postpone it a couple of days.

And you won't know what day transfer is until they know how many eggs there are, how many fertilise & how they look on day 3. I had 17 eggs so it was looking like a day 5 transfer initially, but only 3 fertilised so I ended up with a day 3 transfer with the extra 2 grown on to day 5 to be frozen.

It is a bit of a pain for work & stuff, but hopefully your dates will all work out fine & you won't have to worry!!!

Thank you for your reply. I have been really stressing about this but I talked to my boss the other day and she was totally great about me taking time off. I am just going to cover my work shift hopefully and then just have an open calendar so I am not stressing about leaving my coworkers short at the last minute. The RE office nurse laughed when I called her and said that no matter what I try to do with work dates that it will surely mean that I will need to take off other dates instead. She was very kind but I think all my planning gave her a good chuckle!

Hi! I just wanted to say that I am a nurse too! We have our schedules a month ahead and I am nervous about what days the ER and ET will fall also! (I have done IVF twice, most recently in Feb, ended in ) We are trying again sometime in April. Just waiting for to arrive so I can start some meds. Sounds like we will be close in cycle! They say to be off for 1 day following ER and 2 days following ET. And I was able to get the other girls to cover for me at work last time so that was nice. Plus I will get my "paid days off" time coming in about a week so I should be okay. It is great that your work is being understanding about what is going on with you. I found I did have to tell some people here about what I was/am doing since I have to be out of xray for sure and watch how much I lift etc. Everyone has been supportive though, which is nice. I would like to take some time after the ET too, just afraid to use up too much of my time since (if it is successful) I could need it if I happen to have to be on bedrest or something.
So when do you start? What's your tentitive schedule like?

I am feeling a little better now that I told the boss because I don't know if I can cover anymore of my shifts. My potential ER date is 4/20 and ET on 4/25. If these date go as plan I would be golden with work and would not have to work again until the 29th. I think if they don't go as plan I may just ask for that weekend off as I am supposed to work 3 12's and no one wants (or can't) to work because that is Easter weekend. Do you have a tentative schedule yet?

Oh, yes! I do work nights too! It was tough limiting my caffeine to one mt. Dew (my downfall!) a night last cycle! I try to time it for the drive home since I drive almost an hour and I am always drowsy. Nights is tough but I am a new grad as of last may and you take what you can get! I like the relaxed atmosphere as I am not one who feeds on drama. I work on the floor (medical/surgical) and float to help in the ER.
I don't have a tentative schedule yet for IVF, but hopefully by the end of this week I will get my and then I will have an idea. I am thinking it should be that I will have procedures the last week in April since I think the FS wants me on BC for something like 18 days before trigger. But you know it will depend on how the u/s turn out when it gets closer. So up in the air, I can't wait to get going! I am working easter eve and day so hopefully it will come after that. (It is my weekend to work -we work every other, and one of the girls requested easter off so I am filling in.) And we work 8's, although I'd rather do 12's!
Hopefully I will be right there with you on the timing!! It would be so nice to have a friend to endure the 2ww with!!

Oh my Diet Mt Dew is my closest friend on night shift! That is going to be cruddy but I have a very short drive at least. I am not sure how you do such a long drive after working all night. I have done that in the past and it was miserable for me. I am a bad night shifter anyways but again you take what you can get. I don't like the drama either, yet I work with all women on an Ob floor so that is not always what I get. I have been a nurse for about 4 years.
Date night sounds like fun! I worked the last too many days blah. We mostly do 12's but we also do all sorts of stupid stuff because maternity is so changeable we have to pick up call shifts, 4 hour shifts, etc at times. I love my job but I dream of a time when I could work 3 12's all in a row even on nights! But at this point I have not been willing to go back to the chaos of med/surg for that.
I have my 1st U/S in the am so I should have a fairly good idea of what my cycle is going to be like. It would be nice to have a 2ww friend! I am still hoping that I get to go this cycle now as my tsh is high for the first time. (I have Graves and had a thyroidectomy last year so was very surprised to all of sudden be hypo. Boo! ) Hope it will all be find even though my husband is ready to chuck the cycle in already as he want to avoid loss.

Ok I am off to bed to sleep before mu us. Ooh and I also hired a housecleaner that starts tomorrow

How'd the Ebay selling go? I have to list my old iphone but haven't managed to get around to it yet. I had 13 follicles on my u/s. Don't know if that's good or bad. I am trying to just go with it and not over obsess unfortunately though I tend to think of questions days after going to the RE.

So I finally got AF on Sunday. I have started taking BC on Tuesday. I should be having procedures week of May 15th. Seems like forever away! But making progress! Looks like I will be a bit later than you, but that's okay. Cheering you on!!

May 15th will be a nice time plus I read today that Spring time IVF has a a slightly higher success rate than winter IVF. I know this is cliche but it will come up so quick!

I have my US tomorrow and get to find out if Wednesday will be retrieval day or not. Hoping its not Thursday as apparently DH did not get the memo that this could be any day and he has a huge meeting. Oh well that's how life works right?

lt 12.5,11.5, 6,5,5 and rt 17.5!!!, 11,11,11,8,8,7,6,5,4

I'm a little sore but feeling pretty good. I think that anesthesia makes me happy or something. Got a call today and we have 5 fertilized embryos! Yay! It's the first genetic material that my husband and I have made together! Transfer is Thursday.

5 is great! Now keep in mind that you may end up with less by transfer day. Surely more than enough will make it though. I only say that to give you a heads up. This last time we had 8 fertilized by day 3 transfer, transferring 3 embryos that day. So I was thinking, great, we will have 5 to freeze. But by day 5 there was only 1 that was still multiplying properly. We were able to freeze that one. The first time in 2002, I can't remember how many we started with (a lot I think) and ended up with 3 to transfer and none to freeze. But this is only my experience. Thanks for the heads up. I know that less make it to blastocyst that 3 day transfers. I am only hoping for two to make it, anymore would just be bonus. I saw your response in the other thread. Your moving right along. Thank you for being along for the ride for my tww I promise to do the same for you when the time comes. It probably doesn't seem this way to you but it seems like you are moving right along as well. That is so exciting. Life is just one big adventure and we are along for the ride.

Now if only the girls at work weren't being so difficult all would be good in my world... Apparently I was just trying to take Easter off. I guess none of them get as I don't have children it is no biggy for me and is not a holiday I would ever even want off. I would have rather worked and made the money then laying around taking Percocet and holding my stomach. But I guess some people might consider that a better time than going to work. My doc wants me to take off three days for the transfer as I will be on a weight restriction. I am sure that is going to go well.

Ugh! Sorry you are having trouble with co-workers! Seems like no matter what you do you can't win with everyone! I had this girl that worked on another shift (a HUC/aide no less!) Talking crap about me and checking my time card etc. For no reason at all! I don't even know the girl! Nothing you can do about that.
Okay so 3 days sounds good. Mine recommends day of transfer plus 2 days after. I have arranged for 5 days total so hopefully that will be plenty! Just thought I needed some extra days to relax since this is it for us!
What is the weight restriction? Oh, like you can't lift over X pounds or something right?
AFM, I think I will feel like I'm getting there once May gets here!! I'll actually be in the month of procedure! yay!
