IVF Question...

Hi girls.

Just wondering if someone could give me some insight into things and how they work re appts... In a nutshell i lost 2 babies and both tubes last year and now obviously without IVF i will not be able to become a mother.
So i asked our GP to refer us to the liverpool womens hospital for IVF and a few wks ago we got a appt for 19th april to see the consultant.
From what i have heard i thought that we would of been invited to a patient info evening before seeing cons? maybe im wrong?
Obviously there are no fertility investigations to go through as our issue is very cut and dried and dh seems to have no issues, considering he got me pregnant within a few mths twice. So what do u think will happen at the appt?
will we just go and be told that we have to wait for a PIE? I am really excited for the appt but not a clue what to expect from it really.
Any feedback regarding this would be great. Thanks xxx

Hi Africa

Firstly I wanted to say that i'm so very sorry for your losses. What a brave lady you are. And secondly I would like to share the ins and outs of my first appointment (i'm at St Mary's in Manchester), in the hope it will enlighten you slightly!!

Firstly I did not attend any info evenings. Think they only hold them a couple of times a year and I missed them so had no clue what to expect from first appointment. When it did come round me and DP had to go through our history with the consultant, even though he had the notes from FS in front of him!! I think they like to hear it from the horses mouth!! He then asked us standard qualifying questions like how long we had been together, did we smoke, any previous children, etc, and filled in more paperwork. Next he went through the treatment programme I would be offered and we signed the concent forms there and then. We then chatted to a researcher about stem cell reasearch and whether we would like to take part. After that we had our bloods taken and I was told I would be contacted with results. I was 2-3 weeks later as one of the levels was too high and I needed an MRI. Thankfully all was ok and I was told to ring when I got my next period. I told them that was part of the prob, I don't have periods!! They were very good and prescribed me a drug to induce it and I even managed to get the prescription sent with covering letter to my local GP so I didn't need to travel to collect it. After the bleed I started my first cycle. Sadly it failed but I hope to be trying again in a couple of months (have had a long break in between cycles due to one thing and another!)

So thats my experience!!! Of course each clinic is differnt and that is one thing i've learned on here, they all seem to work at different rates, administer different medications and value different things. But all in all they all work for the same outcome!

That is really helpful. I would imagine a similar appt for us then?
Cant really see the point of seeing consultant and then waiting mths for a PIE when the cons can sort it, but who knows! lol. Hope we get as fast a result as you did.
I am sorry the 1st cycle never worked and i wish you all the very best for your 2nd cycle.
