Well this has taken a while to get around to doing, he is 9 weeks now!
So all through my pregnancy i was told he would be early, there was no way i would go over blah blah blah...
Anyway at 41 + 2 i went to my midwife appointment for a sweep and she said i was 2cm dilated and that i would be giving birth in the next couple of days and was sure the sweep would work but booked for induction on the 21st September. When i got home i was bleeding quite a bit and thought it was working but no such luck, the days went on and i reached 41+6 i was having few odd random cramps and didnt really think about them, went to bed that night ready for my induction the following morning...
so the alarm went off 7am and i pressed snooze and noticed a cramping in my tummy thought nothing of it and went back to sleep...it went again and again i had the same cramping. When this happened a 3rd time i thought hang on a min these are very regular but not painful. They carried on and then the hospital rang to say go straight in for my induction, i told them about the regular cramps and they said to go in anyway. So off we went to the hospital at 9:30am waited about 30 mins to be seen and was then strapped to a machine for an hour for monitoring! She confirmed i was contracting and needed to speak to delivery, couldnt get through so bought the pessary and then hesitated and said she would ring again, got through and they were FULL! She said i was to go home and come back at 5pm, so i thanked her because i was sooooo hungry and wanted a McDonalds!!! So off we went to McDonalds and i sat in the car eating eating my big mac meal whilst having contractions and talking to my friend on the phone
When we got home i decided to wipe the crib down and clean the windows and generally tidy up...lol! As the afternoon went along the cramp turned slightly more painful and i just breathed through each one whilst carrying on, by about 3:30 they were stopping me in my tracks but i was still just breathing through them.
We got to the hospital at 5pm and was shown to my labour room, room 13!!!, im superstitious at the best of times and was saying OMG, Chris and my Mum had both thought the same but didnt comment until it was all over!
So my midwife came to see me at about 5:30pm and was asking lots of questions and asked if she could check me which i obviously said yes to, she said i was about 3cm dilated. She asked if i wanted her to break my waters as she could do it and i said yes, she off she went to get her knitting needle she came back and broke my waters this was about 6:15pm once she had does this the contractions were coming quicker and were a lot more painful, she offered me pain relief i said no then i had a really painful one and shouted as she was about to go out. So she got me the gas and air set up which was amazing, but i didnt like the come down as i was shaking violently and Chris started panicking asking if i was ok and the midwife said it was normal...didnt feel normal to me lol!
I was examined again at 7:15pm and was amazingly fully dilated and ready to push. So i started and was pushing for about 15 mins and she asked to check me again and found i had a bit of cervix still there but said if i wanted to push i could but i said i wanted to stop as i was worried i would cause problem with my cervix (i lost a friend in August last year to cervical cancer after she had given birth it was discovered) The urge to push was sooo strong and my cervix was fine by 8:30pm so i was off again, i remember pushing and pushing with all my might but i was so scared of pooing that i kept stopping at the point of it I continued to push and at this point i was pushing through the contractions so had no pain relief...then panic James' heart rate dropped suddenly and they then couldnt find it, i didnt have time to panic or even take it in as the midwife said im going to press the button a lot of people will rush in but dont worry its fine and before she finished her sentence i had people all over the place and i remember one saying 'turn on your side' another saying 'im lowering the bed' and all at the same time an oxygen mask being put on my face, at this point my Mum was looking out of the window panicking and Chris face was white with the shock of it even thou it was seconds it felt so much longer. Anyway by now it was about 9pm all was well and his heart rate picked up again straight away and i was back to normal and pushing again but i was getting extremely tired and they were watching James closely after an hour of pushing and getting nowhere the midwife called for a Doctor, the biggest person i have ever seen he was an African doctor and was about 7ft tall and 5ft wide with hands like digger buckets, who discussed next steps with me! In fact he was so tall my bed was raised as high as it would go and Chris could just about lean over to me!!!
Id specifically said i didnt want forceps used and would prefer a vontuse assisted delivery so they got everything pprepared whilst i continued to push & push.
They did an episiotomy and fitted the suction cup to James' head and with 2 pushes and pulls James was born at 11:36pm weighting 6lb 8oz and was 48cm long! He is just perfect and looks just like both of us!!
I just remember seeing these arms and legs stretched out and could hear his screams!!! I was thrilled and the peadiatrition saw he was screaming said he is fine congratulated us and off she went without even examining him in fact he was still attached by the cord...he was put straight on me and as soon as he was on me stopped crying it was amazing!
Then came the worst bit THE STITCHES...i could feel it and this big doctor was saying i couldnt it was just because he had told me he was doing it, WTF how does he know lol! Ladies rest lots i was in agony with mine as i did too much...i couldnt even bare to sit down as they were so painful!!
I then sent Mum & Chris home and i had a bath and was taken to the labour ward, and would you believe it...bed 13!!!! James had poo'd inside so was monitored every hour, but all was fine and we went home the next day!!
A few hours old being weighed...
10 hours old with me waiting to be discharged...
In his going home outfit, which only lasted 10 mins due to a nappy explosion...
In the carseat and off we go...
