I woke up on 5th June at 4am and started feeling BH at about 530am. They were not regular, but they were Defintely feeling different to before. I asked my dad to pick Tobi and I up to take us over to the jubilee party they were having as I was uncomfy about driving.
As the day progressed, the contractions started up in ernest, becoming regular at every 13 minutes and lasting about 30 seconds. By the time tea time came, I was needing to concentrate my way through them!
We eventually got home about 6pm and we put Tobi to bed, after which I started timing again. They were coming every 7 minutes and lasting 45 seconds. The pains were very low in the bump and a little at the back. At this stage I called the birthing centre to let them know what was happening, and they said to wait for the 1in3 or until the pains become too much.
My parents came over about 9pm to stay the night as we thought there would be a good chance that we would be going in .... Thank god they did to be honest!!
We went to bed, OH fell asleep, but I was too uncomfortable so spent the next hour and a half on here chatting to you lovely ladies!! LIFESAVERS, thank you. Xx
About 11pm, I was measuring them to being average of 3.5 mins apart and lasting a minute, so rang in again and they told me to come in. I was thinking coherently and thought great, here we go.... All the way in the car I was thinking ohhhhh, I hope I am well dilated let's get on with this.
We turn up, I get examined..... BUGGER ALL IS HAPPENING!! Well almost, I was almost fully effaced, but not dilated at all. I was gutted! We had the option of staying in or going home. At this stage the birthing pool was about to be used by another mum to be who was already 7cms, so I said we would go back to my parents house which was empty and use their bath.
12.15 - 1.45 I was in the bath and the contractions were bad! I was 'mooing' ha! I was sick... At which stage OH said we are going back in as he was worried about me and I had transitioned and was not communicating effectively.
We arrived back at the birthing centre about 2.30, and I had 7 contractions in the space of a normal 2 minute walk!! The MW met us at the door, and watched me have a contraction in the lift.... And said to OH, you need to get her into the delivery room, we need to exam her. At 2:40 I was examined and I was 5-6cms. I had dilated 6 hours worth (1cm an hour on average) in just over 2 hours!! She was quite impressed!*
Over the next hour and a bit I went to 10cms on gas and air alone, it was excruciating. But my OH was amazing and helped me through every one.
I started pushing at about 4.20 (I think) and man.... Was it a relief from the pain of the contractions. UNTIL the ring of fire!! Owie Owie Owie!! The MW had me pushing really slowly to crown his head. So it lasted longer than normal! Then one more push and out he exploded... Literally! He was plugging the hole and all my waters just exploded over the MW!!
Apparently, he had the cord around his neck, was blue and not breathing. I wanted delayed cord cutting but they went into emergency mode and had OH cut straight away and were about to put him in the resus unit when he took a cry!!
He weighed 10lbs1oz and had a head circumference of 57cm!! (average is 49cms!) no wonder ring of fire!! Was born at 4.35am 6/6/12.
I have a second degree tear where my scar tissue from Tobias tore, it would have been much worse if I had not listened to my MW!
We had to stay in for 24 hours due to them being worried about him regulating blood sugar due to his size. I didn't have GD, but it is policy for any baby over a certain weight to be watched. He passed with flying colours!!
I was in recorded established labour for 2 hours 50 mins with about 15 mins of pushing!!
Sorry it is so long, but I love telling the story and don't get many chances!!!
Feel free to ask me any questions about pg, labour, delivery etc. I would be happy to help.
