Firstly, apologies for no updates!
I went into hospital on Friday night with some bleeding (very light) and cramping at 36 + 5. When examined by the hospital they discovered my blood pressure was also rather high so they decided to keep me in over night.
The bleeding did get a little easier, but the blood pressure remained on Saturday. However, they were still thinking I could be sent home on Sunday. But when Sunday morning came and my blood pressure kept spiking they informed me that they would be inducing me that morning! You can imagine the panic I went into at this point!
So I was given two lots of the gel induction (6 hrs working stuff) as on examination I was already showing to be 2cm which was again a huge surprise. But not as much as being informed at 11.30pm on Sunday night that I was going up to the delivery suite!
When I got to the delivery suite I was in a bit of a state as it had all happened so quickly. The midwife broke my waters and literally within 5 minutes my contractions were crazy strong and constant. I opted for an epidural because I have very firm stomach muscles from riding and it was recommended. However, when the epidural was put in there was some difficulty because my back muscles caused a little difficulty being that they are so firm.
As the contractions were more or less constant, I started having some real issues as I didn't get a let up. In the process, my baby started to drop on the stats and she turned back to back with me
The doctor tested her oxygen levels through a little cut on her head and then tried to manually turn her which was absolute agony
Thankfully the oxygen levels were absolutely fine, so I opted to try another epidural which was done a little lower... and it was magical
I then sat and had 15 minutes of peace before the midwife came back in as it looked like my contractions were backing off. On closer inspection the monitor had moved on my tummy so it was readjusted and while we waited for some results the midwife examined me.
We were all a little surprised that in less than 2 hours my cervix was now fully dialated and the midwife could see my baby's head!!!
So no sooner than the epidural had started to work, it was time to push!
Tabitha Scarlett was born at 7.11am on Monday 9th January 2012 weighing a good 5lb 14 which is a good weight as she was 37 weeks and an IUGR baby! We had to stay in last night, but we are now settled at home and it feels fabulous
