June Jitterbugs 2013 - 51 babies born - 27 boys, 24 Girls

Had the health visitor come today, Flo still hasn't gained much weight so they nix want me to feed her every 2 1/2 hours so that she feeds for longer as at the moment sometimes she only feeds for 5 minutes so not getting enough hind milk . Also she thinks this will help with her settling better at night instead of staying up till 5-6 in the morning.

HV is coming for another home visit next week as with losing dad do close to Flo being born they want to make sure I'm not entering postnatal depression (which dh and I don't think is the case we think it's me grieving that I could nt do when dad passed as needed to concentrate on the baby etc).

Joining you ladies over here!

Hope you ladies and your babies are all doing well.

Things are going good with me and my son. He's breastfed and is gaining weight like crazy. I'd say he is probably at least 8lbs now, which is great because he was 6lbs4oz when we were discharged from hospital 3wks ago and he gained 12oz between his 1 and 2wk check ups. He is also packed on a lot of baby fat and its amazing how much he has changed since being born.

Jesse's been pretty much on the boob all day today.

My lactation consultant wanted to check it out cuz she's slightly worried he might not be eating enough and that might be why he constantly wants boob, but I don't think that's it. I think he's just being fussy today and wants boob constantly.

I think maybe DH and I have figured out the best way to both get sleep at night. He puts Jesse to bed around 9ish, I go to bed between 9:30-10, I get up with Jesse whenever necessary beetween 10-2:30 (which in my case, means getting up with him and then staying up til 2:30), then from 2:30-7, I wake DH up if Jesse wakes me up, and he deals with him.
Last night I got 4 hours uninterrupted sleep between 3-7, and then dozed for another two hours between 7-9 because DH finished feeding Jesse at 7 and he slept til 9.

So this is what works this week. Who knows what will be in another week...

Yoshy wish I had a specific consultant to
Contact - might go to the bf clinic tomorrow morning and see if they can help and reassure me. Flo lost 13oz and regained 2oZ in 2 weeks

She's the postpartum doula my mum hired for me and is also a lactation consultant. She's been a total lifesaver!

Woop parenting thread!
My lil monkeys have their 6 week review today... cant wait to see how much they've grown.
Here's a photo of them having finished their 2am feed just now...

They're so chunky and lovely!

Has anyone else got their babies into a bad habit already? Macie will sleep for 4-5 hours straight if I put her on her belly but on her back she'll jerk herself awake after about 2-3 hours. It's way too tempting but so wrong to allow her to sleep like that. Now, she won't settle on her back at all. Plus she looks way too cosy in our big bed!

my evelyn likes her tummy too but we only do this on us like laying on our chest. she prefures her craddle in living room over her crib in bedroom...

Flo Prefers her Moses in the front room to her crib in our bedroom think its because there's less space in the Moses so she feels more secure.

Last night gave Flo 1oz of expressed milk after a 30minute big feed and slept for almost 4 hours - really hope this is the start of her settling better in the evening

Chloe is a tummy sleeper. Since she sleeps in a side car I dont have a problem with it as it means she sleeps really well so I sleep better too. Some babies are just tummy sleepers and it used to be recommended for all babies to sleep on their tummies before it became a SIDS risk. I think there just comes a point when you have to acknowledge that you can only do what works for you and trust your instincts.

Babies aren't supposed to wear Beanies either as a SIDS risk but lots of people put them on.

Just noticed how the twin on the right is playing the air guitar. Love it :haha:

Haha yeah my rock star in the making :haha:

Any other bottle feeding mums finding bubs has little interest in feeding? Usually on 4-5oz, eddie had 3oz and dylan barely managed 0.5oz. Worried about dehydration although im sure one midnight bottle wont make a huge difference but you never kknow

Amelia is finishing her 4oz bottles in the day but down to 2-3ozs in the late evening and through the night. Not sure if the heat has something to do with it?

How's everyone doing?

Taken the decision this morning to move to formula. After a marathon feeding session last night and this morning I've had little sleep all night broken into half hour sessions and it's not workable with having JJ . Flo still has not regained her birthweight at 4+ weeks so think its time to change I'm still going to do the odd feed and pump so she can have ebm but am not worrying about quantities once milk dries up :-(. It's dissapointing but to be honest all I've had is issues and can see little benefit to feeding her apart from the milk has antibodies

:hugs: well done for getting this far. I totally understand how you feel about looking after a toddler with little sleep.

We found out this week that dd2 has a tongue tie. She's also got reflux. I think she has a lip tie too. Waiting for the hospital to decide if they'll see her.

Sorrry to hear it's not working out, but it does sound like you're doing what's best for her.
:baby:
:hugs:

I can relate jelly. We ended up going formula a little over two weeks old. She was constantly eating and never seemed satisfied. I felt like I was neglecting dd1 and it just wasn't sitting well with me. Since making the switch we have all be much happier and me much less stressed out. Whatever decision you chose just know its the best for your family :hugs:

Have Kyleighs 1 month check today I can't wait to see how much she's grown

Youve done well to last this long Jelly especially with having JJ... I made the conscious decision to formula feed right from the start because of the negative impact it would've had on toby. Its hard enough juggling time with babies and toddlers as it is without the sleep deprevation and on-demand feeding on top.

Mummummum how severe is her tongue tie? Edddie has it but its not affecting his feeding so we're leaving it unless it affects his speech later on. Toby has tongue tie... it was worse when he was younger but it split a bit as a baby and healed on its own so its mild now and hasn't caused any issues. I have it mildly too. My tongue is sort of heart/bum shaped but has never been a problem.

I think my other lo has it too but she is fine now. As a baby she really struggled and did with lumps/solids. She has some words she says wrong but not letters listed as being associated with TT.

Amelia though seems to struggle. She can hardly raise her tongue. She comfort sucks her fists because she can't keep a dummy in (tried three different ones but they all pop out). I wanted to use one to help with sids risk too but no luck.

Poor thing has lots of wind and we've tried different bottles but she struggled even more. The smaller teats seem a problem for her. She can't wrap her tongue or keep a seal.

I can see from online research that all our problems bf could have come from this. But like with dd1 I was told it must be me doing it wrong and noone even looked. Now we aren't bf thwy probably won't fix it for her. If not then we'll go private to help her.

I'm going to take dd1 to the dentist as she seems to have a lip and tt too. I don't want her teeth affected.

Wish I knew about all this before dd1 was born!

I never appreciated the issues with breastfeeding. Last time I had no supply not even colostrom do assumed if you have supply all is ok.
