As a doctor I am seeing more and more case of hypertension these days. I am not sure why, but I see a rising trend. This probably has to do with the following factors
1. Overweight
2. Stress
3. Sedentary life style
4. Poor dietary habits.
So I have a few advice for women who do have high B.P
1. Get moving: Exercise is a very good way to stabilize B.P I have seen women with B.P as high as 150/100 bring it back to normal by exercise and diet alone.
2. Pay attention to your diet: Avoid excess salt in food. By excess salt, I mean exclude all salt on table. Avoid chips, wafers, pickles, salted and smoked meat and any packaged food.
3. Eat a food high in dietary fibre, although I have not been able to pin point the relationship between hypertension and fibre, i HAVE SEEN IT HELP. iT PROBABLY HELPS BY BINDING TO CHOLESTEROL AND THUS REDUCING ITS ABSORPTION. sO IT HAS DUAL BENEFITS.
4. Try yoga. It is an excellent stress buster and can be easily performed.
