Well got back from Dr and my blood pressure was high  So i have to go back Monday and see what happens and if i get put on meds for it or what.

Does anyone else have this and what happens?

I started swelling and my BP spiked about 2 weeks ago. I was put on BP medication and did a 24 hour urine test. I'm still below the cut off for pre-eclampsia but just barely.

Make sure you relax but keep your eyes open for signs of pre-e.

Best of luck to you with the follow up!

I had this in the beginning of my pregnancy. After wearing a heart monitor for 24 hours, I was put on beta blockers (Presinol AKA Methyldopa) that were safe for pregnancy, but I got off of them due to dry nose bleeds and other complications, and all of a sudden, my BP went back to normal levels! :flower:

If you have to start taking beta blockers, it's not the end of the world, but there are other things you can do to help lower your BP: eat less salt, drink more water, have bananas, etc.

It's not a bad idea to monitor your BP regularly anyway. :flower:

well mom in law lent me a blood pressure monitor and so far today:

5pm: 175/115
8:40pm: 163/115

Still looks like i may be or most likely bee put on meds the way it is going :(

As a doctor I am seeing more and more case of hypertension these days. I am not sure why, but I see a rising trend. This probably has to do with the following factors
1. Overweight
2. Stress
3. Sedentary life style
4. Poor dietary habits.

So I have a few advice for women who do have high B.P

1. Get moving: Exercise is a very good way to stabilize B.P I have seen women with B.P as high as 150/100 bring it back to normal by exercise and diet alone.

2. Pay attention to your diet: Avoid excess salt in food. By excess salt, I mean exclude all salt on table. Avoid chips, wafers, pickles, salted and smoked meat and any packaged food.

3. Eat a food high in dietary fibre, although I have not been able to pin point the relationship between hypertension and fibre, i HAVE SEEN IT HELP. iT PROBABLY HELPS BY BINDING TO CHOLESTEROL AND THUS REDUCING ITS ABSORPTION. sO IT HAS DUAL BENEFITS.

4. Try yoga. It is an excellent stress buster and can be easily performed.

Remember hypertension in pregnancy does not mean the end of the world. Just relax and everything will workout fine.

i got Labetalol 100mg take 2 pills twice a day. and have to go back Thursday for a check up and also going for a ultrasound to be sure baby is still growing and thriving but so far for baby heartbeat of his is normal and he is happy.

Is there anything you can recommend for a yoga teacher who is at the lower end of a healthy BMI, eats plenty of fibre and has always avoided foods high in sodium but still has elevated blood pressure? :haha: Actually, I'm serious, this is my situation- high blood pressure and high cholesterol just run in my family no matter how healthy a lifestyle we lead- quite frustrating really (which of course just makes it worse...)

Take it easy hun, you sound like me although mine started at 19 weeks. Had contsant 24 hr urine monitoring and ended up on the day unit twice a week for full monitoring plus numerous overnighters. I tried everything to lower it but seems it was how it was gonna be. As I said, take it easy x

Yes i can no longer clean the house or do many things now :( When i got in Thursday my BP went down thank gosh but of course not to where exactly we want it but the meds are working. I go back again Wens for another check and Tuesday for the Ultrasound. In ways i am happy no more cleaning :)

My BP was something along the lines of

180/120(i forget this one though so only guessing) It was super high they thought maybe because i was nervous about the diabetes test so i had to come back in and it was still high is why i got put on meds right away.

But like said so glad meds kicked in and so far so good.

well my BP went up again whil on the meds  so i am now on 800mg a day (2 200mg pills in morning & 2 200mg at night) And i have to go see a specialist about it too :( I am not sure what is going to happen now.

But on the good side my ultrasound was good baby is growing two days ahead and all.
